If you are driving thru W Memphis it seems like 1 big truck stop. Plus a dog track. And to be honest, I've never seen anything in W Memphis to make me want to visit.

Thanks. I havent been able to find a post about W Memphis on this site and was curious to find out more as I may be visiting there sometime in the near future. Websites basically give statistical overviews and nothing more.

If you are considering moving to the Arkansas side of the Memphis Metro, you should look at Marion which borders West Memphis to the north. It's population has increased nearly 200% since 1990 and it is the best public school district in East Arkansas. Marion is closer to downtown Memphis than any of the suburbs on the Tennessee or Mississippi side. Suddivisions are being built in Marion like crazy these days and now that people on the Tennessee and Mississippi sides are seeing the advantages of Marion, many of them are also flocking across the river.

I grew up in West Memphis and I still have plenty of friends and family there. I currently live in Little Rock though. If you are wanting to be close to Memphis, but not in Tennessee, I would suggest Marion. They have better schools, better restaurants, and more things to do. West Memphis is a small town that is only going downhill. Crime is worse and everyone is moving away (as I did).

Marion is much better than West Memphis, for living. Entertainment wise west memphis is better with the racetrack and all but thats not saying much. Crime and Interstate Traffic due to construction are huge problems in W. Memphis. Memphis is where the partys at! For visitors at least- are you only visiting or considering a move? Do NOT move to w. memphis- too many problems, nearby marion is MUCH better. Visitors should probably stay in Memphis for touristy and entertainment stuff.

Hi again...W Memphis is an option for a work location for about a year so I really need to do the research to enable me to make the right decision. The other choices are Harrison and N Platte, Nebraska. Thanks

If you decide on west memphis, you would almost definitely want to live in Marion. Harrison Nebraska or Arkansas? Harrison, Arkansas is a nice little town, but Harrison, NE I dont know a thing about, except that it exists. Sorry

Don't know about Nebraska, but I have been through Harrison many times. It is very rural and is probably the most conservative town in the state. It is nearly 100% white and very racist. There are many parts of Arkansas that seem frozen in time, but Harrison tops them all. There isn't much there in the way of culture and shopping is pretty much limited to Wal-Mart. You can go to either NWA, Springfield, or Little Rock for additional options. I would go take the job in West Memphis because you are so close to Memphis and all the ameneties that come with it, and you still have the option to live rural if you want.
