I was following the advice of a poster to read Wikipedia. Wikipedia mentioned that near Dumas, there's an activie thread of the KKK, known as the Bayou Knights. Does anyone kow about them?

Well, sad but true there are people like this everywhere. I've heard very hateful things from NAACP supporters too and many other organizations.....thats just part of life. But i wouldn't worry about it, nowadays by active i think they mean a bunch of old guys playing poker in the old "klan house"(the barn out back lol) talking about the "good ol days". Not saying not to look into it, but i would NOT let that stop you from moving. I lived in Arkansas for 18 years and never ran into any problems, even in Harrison i didn't see anything of the sort(though i saw the longest mullet on the planet there! ). Though i grew up in Fayetteville, probably the area with the least of these types of problems, I still traveled around a good amount of Arkansas and didn't see anything like that. I did have a skinhead(think white power punk from the early 80s lol) friend, but he was from California lol, if that tells ya anything. Either way, i hope Arkansas works out for ya!

Ive lived in Ar for almost 35 years and have traveled and had friends all over AR, and the only thing I have saw from or heard about the klan was a sign right before you get to Harrison that said " this portion of highway kept clean by the KKK" so i guess everyone pitches in to fight litter. LOL
I wouldnt worry about it, if you wanna move, move.

Hey, CESpeed, I'd drive over there just to see the look on their face if you asked if membership was "open".

I'm not familiar with the "Bayou Knights", but I know that the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan based out of Harrison, AR is still active. They still regularly go to small towns in Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Tennessee and have their little hate speaches.

That Harrison, AR group is the same lot according to the Southern Poverty Law Center's website.

At This American Life, the "Know Your Enemy" episode, check out the 8-minute prologue about Stetson Kennedy, who infiltrated the KKK planning to bring it down. "One of his weapons: the Superman radio show."

I am far more worried about black hate groups than the Klan. And the Klan is small now days and doesn't hold much power. But black hate groups that's another story. Just look at that so called preacher Wright spilling his hate on world wide TV. And other black hate groups doing the same thing. When have you ever heard the Klan make a speech on TV?
