Nita,

I've done worse by responding to a thread from 2007:

http://http://www.city-data.com/foru...-ash-flat.html

I feel like I'm actually getting to know a few new neighbors because of it. What a great Oops!

I hope you don't take this post in the wrong way. I'm just so tickled to find this forum to be able to help a bit and to learn a bit about our new home, at the same time.

oh, I didn't mean anything except I just wondered why, after so long this thread even popped up again? I always wonder when they are dead, why someone brings them back to life. Many times I have answered one that has been dug up just to look at the ops date and see how old the thread is..p

Many times threads are dug up by people doing re-search on a city using city-data detailed profile.

Since there is a section in there of all threads mentionining that specific city, it is easy to get " caught up" and ask a question w/o realizing how old that thread was.

The reply/question then brings that thread back to life here.

(I've been guilty of doing it also when checking out a city on detailed profile and not checking the date )

You'd think they'd be automatically closed and archived after a certain amount of time. Is that not possible?

I agree.

The old ones could still appear on city-data detailed profile , but they could be listed as closed and still be informative and usefull for a person checking that city out on--detailed profile--.

marmac, I know what you are saying but I too, think after maybe a year these threads should just be closed...I am sure most subjects will appear again in a differenet form.

As far as I know it is not possible to forclose on a home for a ML, that just means that someone who worked on that home, was not paid or at least they feel they are owed, and they are notifying the court that they have an interest in that property. But they can not force a sale, they have up to one year to file in court to sue you for the money or the lein falls off. If you sell the home the lein will come up as a cloud on the title and they will have to settle it unless the lein is more than a year old and no court action was taken. If you go to court the judge will decide if the money is owed and order you to pay if it is. But he can not order you to sell your home. Only a secured party on the title like a bank or individual who has a land contract can forclose, one other party can do this, the IRS can lein your property and in some cases take it for unpaid taxes. Other than that if you are never going to sell your home, the lein is worthless except for a first step to go to court. This is my OPINION and is not legal advice, my adivce is to contact an attorney.
