Springdale that bad?
I read this statement and now I'm scared off springdale. The MLS shows a ton of nice looking 3 car garage homes in our price range too 175-250.000
Springdale is a nice town, but it definitely is considered the red-headed stepchild of northwest Arkansas. Cost of living is very reasonable for the area.
Tyson (chicken) is headquartered in Springdale - some people up here call the town Chickendale. Rogers also has a significant Latino population, but it's more noticeable in Springdale - numerous businesses, signs, etc. are in Spanish.
What other areas around Fayetteville would be better for us. We will be retired and was hoping to live in Fayetteville, but I see much more 3 car garage homes in Springdale then any other place

Springdale is going to have it's nice and bad areas just like any of the cities in NWA. None of them are perfect. Some are nicer than others. Springdale is just home to more lower income people. Yes, there is a significant hispanic population there, and this is made evident by a lot of the business's there. Personally if I were retired and going to live anywhere it would eb Fayetteville, but I don't think you would be dissapointed with Springdale, either.

Taterhead,
Many parts of Ar will have homes like you discribe for under $200,000. This isn't Florida, Calif, NY or some of the pricier states. Don't let the prices scare you. That being said and you are retired have you thought about Bentonville or bella Vista? Yes, both areas are a little further away, but still not far from the Fayetteville area, both are middle class with good reputations and a mixture of ages and life styles. Bella Vista has a very large segment of seniors.
Just some thoughts.

Does bella Vista have strict rules? My husband wants a workshop or a 3 car garage will work too. he is worried that some neighborhoods will say no to a out building or having the shop in the garage.
We are coming for a visit in May, but we don't have a clue as to where to look for homes no more then 250.000, prefer to pay less then that actually. I need newer and he would live in a barn if it was left up to him, (Iowa boy born and rasied, lol). We live in a very nice upscale home now, but we can't afford it after we retire. we will only have so much left over after paying off the morgage ya know.
I see all kinds of town names that come up on MLS around Fayetteville area, but don't know if they are good either. This is so hard when you don't live there and this Arkansas board is much slower then the other boards are.

Springdale does have some very beautiful/nice neighborhoods which are like hidden gems in this mostly ghetto town. As said above every town has its good and bad, but Springdale has more bad the many towns in NWA

Tator I understand the difficulty with finding nice places when you don't live near. I can tell you, though, that if you're spending 200k on a house anywhere in that area you should be pretty confident that it is in a good neighborhood. I live a bit south of the NWA area and 200k here gets you a nice house in a nice neighborhood. You really can't go wrong in fayetteville, rogers, or bentonville. That price of a home in Springdale should put you in a good area as well

Thanks so much for all the help. So We should look mostly at Fayetteville,Rogers and Bentonville as nice safe neighborhoods then just forget about Springdale altogether?
Maybe some of these homes in Springdale I see on MLS are on the border line of Fayetteville?

The funny thing is that for years Springdale has been 'all about business' and turned a blind eye towards irresponsible development ... wanna open a used car lot, Church, car wash, liquor store and mobile taqueria all on the same block, not a problem - wanna paint your business flourescent lime green with pink and purple accents and pave over any greenscape to create more parking, not a problem - wanna build a factory or industrial warehouse amongst those houses, not a problem - wanna erect the biggest business sign or billboard you can image, not a problem - and the best part of Springdale - wanna vent the smell of processing poultry out into the atmosphere to create a unique aroma to envelope the town, you guessed it, not a problem.
But now that they are about to debut their new minor league baseball team and state of the art baseball stadium, some city officials are all of a sudden concerned with Springdale's image. They realize it’s going to be hard to get folks to spend their money in Springdale when you have Fayetteville to the south a Rogers / Bentonville to the north.
Never to late to change ways, but it is going to take awhile to reverse some the lack of quality development and city planning in Springdale.

I wouldn't rule out Springdale, personally, but for someone like yourself who doesn't really have the option to go through all the neighborhoods and cities and see for yourself, then I think Fayetteville, Bentonville and Rogers are all safe bets. All three are very nice cities that offer better city services than Springdale, atleast in my opinion. I would say out of all Bentonville, in my opinion, is probably the nicest.
You just have to understand Springdale is a large city, and is going to have bad parts. It also has nice parts as well, so just because you see a nice house doesn't necessarily mean it is in a bad area.
I think Boulder hit the nail on the head, it seems as if Springdale has been very lax about what kind of building is going on and such, and this shows when you travel through the cities.
