I completely agree with you. I lived in this town for 8 years and i hated it. Alot of the people are racist. When i was 17 i saW over 30 kkk members standing on the corner protesting by old train depot. I know you guys remember that. Their are hardly any jobs besides fast food. And their are alot of crooked people. I lived the through most of my childhood until i graduated and then i got the hell out of their. Their is no diversity and their is nothing for teens to do in that town. People need to know this info. Its important. Especially if you are not white!!

I think happyfeet24 and TheTruthIsALie have both been drinking from the same coolaid jar. Perhaps they spring from the same family tree and have run afoul of the local magistrate. They sure seem to have the same axe to grind.
Mena is a lovely little town. There may be some intolerance there, but that can always be found if you're looking for it no matter where you are. Even Heaven has a zero tolerance policy for some things. ;^) |

I know Mena as a frequent visitor to my Cousin's place. He and his his Wife are retired and love the area. My Wife and I love the area simply because it is beautiful and there are no "chain" issue stores and eateries to consume what will be our limited retirement income. We will seriously consider Mena as a retirement possibility.
Retirement in our case will be an economic challenge but as my IRA advisor says "check your ego at the door on the way out". |

There are limited to no jobs in Mena. Before moving to Mena your family needs to be self-supporting for the rest of your life plus able to drive. The is no public transportation. If you are a veteran then you do have access to a local VA outpatient clinic. The VA also has a van that takes folks to the VA hospital in Little Rock. People are friendly. There are many opportunities to join clubs, organizations and churches. If you are an artist then you will wish to check out all of the activities at the Mena Art Gallery. Mena is a small town with traditional, conservative thinking in all areas of life.

it is a wonderful place to live if you are retired, but the job situation leaves a lot to be desired it is not a good place for the working people unless they like working fast food. or have a teaching degree, we have a very good collage here and they are trying to go from a 2 year collage to a 4 year, so we are trying to grow. it might be best if you and your family could take a vacation and come take a look for about 2 weeks, and see for yourself.
