I just got an information packet from the Board of Tourism. I love it. According to them, there are only beautiful, wonderful places in Arkansas and the whole country should want to live there. If I didn't know my mom would blow up the State if I came before my birthday and the holidays, I'd be on my way! I'm so excited!

Have you decided on where you're going? Or are you still planning on your "just lookin'" trip? Are you still planning on looking at El Dorado and Pine Bluff? Because I think it would be a waste of your time, besides being SO far out of your way, and not good places to live, either. I don't think you should go any further east than Little Rock, either.

So anyway, keep us informed! I'm living vicariously through all the people here who are pulling up stakes and moving to Arkansas!

Right now I'm still planning my scouting trip. I'll probably do two trips before making my final decision. That's what happens when one has too many great choices.

The short list has been narrowed to seven (or eight) and yes, Pine Bluff and El D are still on it, though Pine Bluff is hanging by a thread. The tourism board isn't helping the "stay away" cause. I'm definitely leaning towards the Central area. My mother says that my grandfather was born in Camden so we should have family floating around there somewhere, thus the (or eight).

As I do my research and really think about things, the list changes. It now consists of, in order: West Memphis, Blythville, El Dorado, North Little Rock, Texarkana, Jacksonville, Camden (?) and Pine Bluff. I have some smaller communities as back up, including Hope and Magnolia, but I'm skittish about the whole "small town clique" thing. I know I'm probably overthinking, but I've read and reread most of these threads because I don't want to end up like the people who feel trapped.

Don't miss this thread, then....Camden is mentioned and several insiders comment about El Dorado.

Also, your very first post mentioned that you are a black woman who wants to date white men, right? I think you will find the areas you are looking at will not be the best for that. I believe the social stigma that still exists about that in those areas (I'm talking the places that would be south of Little Rock) will affect the "pool" that you would have to choose from. I'm not saying that anyone would burn a cross on your front yard or try to run you out of town, but I don't think it would generally be accepted well. I think that is why most people have advised you to choose NW Arkansas.

I may be speaking wrongly here....anyone actually from those areas want to correct me on this?

I was thinking along those lines which is why I'm really leaning towards the Central region. Of course knowing no one will burn a cross on my lawn is a great relief.

My parents moved from illinois to Hot Springs Village. They loved it there. we used to come down for spring break, and thanksgiving. They had to move back about 7 years ago because of my father's health. There were a lot of nice things to see and do. and during our spring break, the weather was always great!
