I agree 100%. My wife, 15 year old son and myself have been driving up to the Buffalo at least once a year for a float/camping trip. If you are new to the Buffalo River or bringing a camper, try staying at Buffalo Point. Nice campsites, running water, hot showers, toilet facility There is a restaurant nearby along with many outfitters that will rent canoes/kyacks, offer shuttling and have anything that you may possibly need or forget. I've always dealt with Wild Bill"s Outfitters and have had a great time for a decade now.

If you are wanting to "get away from it all" then, book a 2 or 3 day trip on the river. Take your fishing and camping gear and set up where ever along the river you want. Smallmouth bass and bream can be caught in many areas on the Buffalo but, in my experience, you will catch more and bigger in the middle to lower region of the river, below Gilbert all the way down to Rush. A great 3 day trip on the river in this area would be from North Maumee to either the Hwy 14 bridge or on down to Rush. Just remember to bring plenty of ice, no glass and take out what you bring in.

Riverside Resort is a great campground with great trout fishing, and some challenging rapids to go down. They rent all types of river floats, canoes, kayaks, big blue rubber boats(navy seal rafts) is what we call em. Sonny is the owner and is a great guy, he will show you the best fishing holes in the area.And the staff is very helpful as well. They have a big concert/motorcycle party in fall. That is the family friendly version of Many Islands.
