I just moved to Bellefonte (just on south side of Harrison) from Nebraska and very glad we did so. It is retirement for us. We went to DC for the 4th July fireworks and really enjoyed it. Burgers at the Ice Cream stand, and a leisurely drive home. Weather is as stated, hot in the Summer, Cold (not bad compared to Omaha NE) in the winter . Winter only seems to last about 2 months here. COME ON DOWN!

Hi,
We would love to have you here! New blood is ALWAYS welcome! We are from Texas here. Any questions you might have, feel free to email me and I can tell you most anything you might need to know.

No, the humidity is fine. We do have trees here and it is not any different from other places in the country. Humidity is fine. We lived in Florida for 14 years, and no, the humidity is not half as bad here! We would love to hear from you. There are a few friendly locals around. ;0)

I have just moved to Arkansas from Kansas. It is a very different atmosphere in general for an "outsider" the thinking and ways of the people in general are just "different". It is not a really bad place to live but the poverty is very high. There seems to be no middle ground. There are a lot of retirees down here, but connecting with someone you have something in common with can be very difficult. I live just outside Harrison out in the country. The country roads are poorly maintained and full of huge potholes and just as many huge rocks. Best to travel in SUV or 4WD truck if you want to travel these roads. There are a lot of underground springs which provides well water for most of the rural areas. In the "not cold" weather there is quite a bit of rain sometimes. You will see "low water bridges" everywhere. When it rains the rain runs straight off the hills down into the valleys and sometimes those valleys are in the middle of downtown! It often rains in the morning and by 1pm it is over 100 degrees so that creates humidity that is awful especially if you are from a dryer climate. If you want to spend 99% of your time fishing this is an ideal place. Because of the low economy it is easier to live on smaller retirement funds. That is why I am here but looking for somewhere else to go. In Harrison the only place to go for entertainment socially is the coffee house, or the Elks club (not my cup of tea). The thinking down here is a lot different and it is nothing to see someone spank their kid in the middle of Walmart (which is sometimes necessary). Some of the schools down here still administer spankings also. Hope this gives you a little idea from the eyes of an outsider. I will watch back for further discussion because this is entertainment down here. lol

We traveled through Nashville, AR, at night and it looked like more of a real town. We only saw one grocery store in Murfreesboro and it was a small one. The people we came in contact with were very nice and Hot Springs is about an hour and a half away if you really need something. We asked about Lake Greeson and the person wasn't really enthusiastic about it. Said better fishing was at Millwood. There is the diamond mine and once a year there is also a dig at the Indian site for artifact and arrowheads.

We really loved the house and the beautiful trees and wildlife but are trying to decide if we want to do more than just hermit in our retirement years. We like to canoe and were told this area wasn't so great for it.

If some of these things were different, we'd have made an offer on the house already.

Would like anyone else's imput that may help in our decision.
The Murfreesboro hospital is now closed and two of it's officers have been sued. Millwood is the best fishing place. Murfreesboro is within commuting distance of the Cossatot River where there are different levels of white water canoeing. Nashville is a little bigger than Murf., but it too is a small country town. The towns aren't depressed, it's just that they are not growing. I guess that is a little play with words, but they are not deteriorating. If that was an option I would not hesitate to move to Murf. or Nashville, but medical would be a problem in Murf., and Nashville does have a small hospital. but if there was a serious problem though, from either town you would probably be sent to Texarkana. If you have any specific questions I will be happy to try to help.
