(I would like some privacy but my wife doesn't want to feel isolated out in the sticks.) Yes, I have a few contradictory requirements to meet because family is involved.

Most of my research has been on Zillow, thus far, and not too serious, but now it is getting time to get serious, so I thought I would open up a thread here. I have read a few previous threads, and the first thing I want to say is that this sounds like a nice on line community, unlike what I see elsewhere.

My first question is, should I be looking at any other listings than Zillow?

My second question is when I look at listings, I see an item called "TAX ASSESSMENT"
What is that? the value after exemptions?
How is it usually calculated?
I spent most of my developing years in Mountain Home and still have family and friends there (and visit semi frequently). If you have any questions about specific areas, or really anything about the town, I'd be happy to help.

I'd also second the realtor.com recommendation. I love Zillow for research but it's not the best about keeping up with current listings.

I couldn't get on realtor.com
seems it wants my realtor license or something to that effect.

I did get on real-estate-multilist.com but I don't know if that is the same.

I have property in rural north central AR, around Salem, AR.

Roads in northern AR are good. Weather is generally moderate, a little snow in winter, some high humidity year long.

Ticks and chiggers are everywhere. Wildlife is plentiful.

Jonesboro is generally considered the "go to" place in northern AR for major medical problems.

I grew up in AR, and communities can be a little "tight grouped" and Yankees take a little time to adjust. Yes, when you are in the south, you must assume the south won the war. If you are friendly, you will fit right in, but it may take several years.

That is probably the only downside.
I may get some chickens, just to keep 'em down.

I am hoping Mountain Home is the place to go for minor medical problems.
The major ones, I'll take to the grave. That usually stops 'em.

How can I assume that? It ain't over yet

Guineas are better than chickens for ticks and chiggers, and spray around your yard areas with Permethrin SFR

Our trouble with guineas was once they decide to set on a clutch of eggs, they were easy prey for anything hungry. Guineas roost in trees, but nest on the ground, and could not be coaxed into the hen house like chickens.

Relator.com has been pretty helpful. I find it amusing, and somewhat frustrating, how little information the listing have on each house.

I am looking for any place that has a little space around it, propane, at least one outbuilding and something resembling a cellar or basement.

For instance, on missing information, at least a couple of listings, the propane tank was plainly visible in the photos, and there was at least one item in the house that runs on gas, but propane was not listed.

Do the agents generally have a lot more info on the property, but just put up what they think people will be interested in, or am I asking questions no one else looks at?
