We are thinking my husband might be offered a transfer to Osceola.
We currently live in a suburb of Detroit. With Detroit being the motor city we live in a working class ( factory rat as we call it) community. Where multiple generations have worked either in a steel mill, auto factory, or a supplier for the auto industry.
We love the country life as we have multiple friends whom either live on a small farm or on a couple acres in the country.
When we visited the area the beginning of July I loved downtown Memphis but rode our motorcycles through some very sketchy areas. We've heard the Blytheville, AR is NOT a place for a family to live as the murder rate per capata is higher than the city of Detroit ( which is very high here lol).
We have a child that is entering 6th grade (here he's going into middle school 6-8th grades). He actually does not even go to the schools in the community we live in. He goes to a district 5 miles from our home.
Currently my hubby has a 15/20 min commute to work, which I know will be difficult to find down there and live in a nice community.
Our #1 priority is schools & crime.
#2 is commute to the plant in Osceola, hope for no more than 45 mins.
If anyone can recommend an area with good schools and low crime I would greatly appreciate it!!
Thank you

You might look at Marion. It's right around 40-45 minutes away. Close to Memphis if you want to go do things there. Supposed to be better than living in West Memphis from what I've heard.

As Westfork states, Marion is probably an option. Another option, although it will be a longer commute, would be Jonesboro. Those two areas are probably going to offer the best combination of schools and low crime in the East AR region. Keep in mind that "best in region" does not mean much in Eastern AR. Eastern AR is a high poverty area with lots of problem schools. Either Marion or Jonesboro will be a long commute and you will need to ask yourself, "why am I wasting at least an hour and a half each day with a commute . . . is living in ______ that much better than Osceola?" When you know the answer to that question, you will know which city is for you.

Yes, agree with the above. I am originally from Blytheville, Ar ; which is about 30 miles north of Osceola.

I grew up in Blytheville, but it has substantially changed. All the small towns along I-55 and hwy 61 in eastern AR have high crime and lots of poverty. Jonesboro is a larger college town (I went to college there in the early 1970).

There is a large steel mill in Blytheville, and I understand most of the executives either live in Jonesboro, AR; or Dyersburg, TN.
