West Siloam Springs, OK west of Bentonville has a Cherokee Nation Casino. The are supposedly breaking ground on nice hotel resort casino in W. Siloam Springs. Fort Smith has a group working on getting laws changed to build a casino.

There are casinos just across the Oklahoma line near Ft. Smith and Siloam Springs.

The Fort Smith casino proposal failed and is no longer in action. The religious groups, the mayor, and Gov. Beebe were all against it. In Ft. Smith and Arkansas in general, if the religious groups are against something its very hard for it to get passed.

I'm glad to hear this. I don't think gambling is good...it costs more than it brings in. I'm also glad to hear that there aren't any casinos in Arkansas...I wasn't aware of that.

I don't personally gamble, but I think it should be legalized. I view illegal gambling in the same way as I view dry counties: people using the legal system to enforce their religious beliefs on the masses.

Boy is that true and you know, gambling is a form of entertainment like going to the movies or out for dinner, whatever. Yes, there are those who are addicted to gambling as well as those addicted to many things. For them there will always be a way to throw away their money.

If I was addicted and thank God I am not, I could go to OK, drive up to the river boat gambling or go to any number of other places. Heck they now have on line gambling (that is scary to me) This is the same with liquor, for anyone who needs it they will find it.

Gambling costs a state more than it brings in. And some of the costs are not financial, although they do sometimes end up costing money....for family counseling, divorce lawyers, more law enforcement to fight the increased crime, etc.

Saying that people are going to find or do something no matter what is not a good argument for legalizing it. Apply that logic to meth, murder, child molestation, etc., and you can see how it fails.

There are more factors in that contribute to quality of life than just bringing in more money. I realize this is not a popular opinion, but it is true....most people in America have just lost sight of this truth and cannot even see it, due to being steeped in materialism for so long.

And if gambling is not easily accessed, many people will never start.

That is the only part of your argument I can buy. Whether gambling is legal in AR, MO or Ok, people who want to do it will find away and the money they are going to spend could go to the state they live in. The argument about it costing money in other ways may be valid, but my point is: habitualy gamblers will still cause those expenses, same as any other addiction and of course legalizing gambling and murder are not the same. I don't think you really meant to give that as a comparison. Now, that I have said that, I would like to know how we got on the subject of the morals or pros and cons of gambling. I didn't start the post for this reason, I simply asked where the best casinos in near by states were located. If your choice in life is to not gamble, drink, smoke, or whatever more power to you, my question had nothing to do with anyones views on vices.

Missouri has the lottery. That is like gambling, except the state is ripping you off instead of Indians.
