My wife and I are looking into moving up into this area from Florida. We're retired and looking to be in a nice quiet area with a decent cost of living. We'd like to be within a 30-40 drive to shopping and health care. Do you think an area like this would suit our needs? We'd like to stay in the $200k range with maybe an acre or two.Any help, good or bad, would be greatly appreciated.

health care, Theirs a big hospital in Mountain Home all the health care one could want. Shopping, It's right there A big Wal mart supper store, Harps and others. $200K would not be a problem. I would think Mountain Home would be perfect for what you are looking for.

Mountain Home is a nice place to live. It isn't too crowded. Several Floridians are moving there. The hospital there is pretty good. And land is very cheap. Depending on what you want. 200k will buy a very nice place. There are several realtors there. Larry Black is a good one. But there are others as well.
Don't move to Harrison though. Rotten place.

Wife and I have traveled from Mountain Home to Eureka Springs in northern AR looking for possible retirement living. What I like about northern AR are the outside activities. I also like the fact that most of it is small town or at least has a small town feel. Mountain Home is the largest town we passed thru. It has all the basic services and you don't need to travel too far to be in rural areas. It also has two nice lakes in the immediate area to fish or otherwise enjoy. A realtor we were using called MH "little chicago". I guess that means there are lots of transplants.
