How big is the ranch (acres) and where are the stables located on the ranch, one side, middle? If they keep the stables clean, as good horse people will, there should be no problem, but if not and they are within 100 yards or so there could be a fly problem.

When we first moved to Little Rock in the 90s, our house near Bowman Road backed up to a farm with a horse. I think he was lonely and would come visit frequently. My wife grew up around them and would talk to him and feed him carrots. That lasted for about a year until the farm sold. She loved it and still brings it up every once in a while.

Depending on the kind of ranch, I expect the biggest problem would be the people visiting /working it from a noise perspective. Far better than cattle, hog or chicken confinement operations. At least it shouldn't stink.

And who says horses don't stink? I think they do. I mean, they're great animals and all, but they do poop everywhere they go.
Fortunately, it only stinks when it's fresh.
BUT....it would be better than hogs or chickens, and a large percentage of people. And they are quiet, as Slim said.
If you're into gardening you could collect the dried horse poop for your compost pile. Plants love that stuff!
