Do people go for walks around their neighborhood streets in Hillcrest after dinner? I don't mean hanging outside at 2 am, more so enjoying the weather outside after sunset (dark enough for "bad" things to happen). And also what does the scene look like during Halloween? Do many parents take their kids trick-or-treating to neighbors' houses?

Also, are there any building regulations in Hillcrest that wouldn't allow for a rear entry garage to be built?
Don't know about a rear garage, but yeah there are people that walk the streets after dark. At all times of day you see people walking dogs, biking, jogging, etc. Its very convenient because the neighborhood is so walkable you can walk about anywhere. There is a grocery store, a lot of fine dining establishments and a few middle of the road ones, a few bars, and several shops. The Heights, a neighborhood right above Hillcrest is the same way except its more affluent than even Hillcrest.

bchris is totally right. There's ALWAYS people out walking or jogging in that area. I doubt there are restrictions on rear entry garages but I would imagine that most lots are small enough that a rear entry garage would be all but impossible. I THINK I can recall seeing a side load or two.

The size of the lot is going to be more of a factor - by the time you add easements and all there may not be room. I think a lot of the streets in Hillcrest have alleyways behind them, though...you might contact the city planning department and see what is the norm for the address you are considering. If I'm not mistaken, if there is a utility easement or something it has to go before the city board of directors for a waiver, but I could be really wrong about that.

Default Self Storage

Hello future neighbors. Again, thanks for all your help! I was wondering if anyone knows of good, well-supervised self storage units in the Little Rock area that are reasonably priced. In Augusta, GA, I've been paying about $20/month for a ~5'x10' unit. I just need a place to store some boxes of books/clothes (5'x5') and don't need climate control. Thanks!

I don't know how reasonable they are, but there are some on the south side of I-630 if you go down Mississippi and look east. I can get the name - they have the climate controled or regular, I think. What area of town are you looking in, they are all over?

Looking in the Hillcrest/Heights area, but am willing to travel up to 20-30 min for cheaper facility.

Housing prices are cheaper in Benton and Conway, but you also need to factor in the cost of fuel to live out there. Many people I know who live in Conway pay about $200 or more per month in fuel costs at the current prices. That is only going to increase as gas prices are expected to keep rising. That cost more than makes up for the savings you get by living out there vs. in Little Rock/NLR.

Just wanted to put in my two cents. I live in West Little Rock for various reasons but I think Hillcrest is just as safe and clean as any urban neighborhood you can find. There are joggers, dogwalkers, and those taking casual strolls to eat or go shopping all times of day and night. Paying an extra $50 a square foot should be an issue but safety should not. I live further west simply because the home I wanted couldn't be had at the price I wanted in Hillcrest or the Heights.
