Thought this thread was going to be far longer than this, given the topic and the number of times it's caught my eye on the forum page over the past month. I finally click on it and I'm somewhat let down to see there've only been 50 comments to this point

I was born and raised in Wisconsin and now living in Arkansas. I'm glad you've saw this great state and I hope that you return. I haven't read through a lot of the replies, but I'm guessing people found this creepy and/or told you to not move here. Do what you want with your life and don't let people on forums discourage you from something you want to do. You probably knew the risks and still went through with it and had a great time. This state is very open on accepting anyone who moves here, just be careful on the location that you choose (as in a dangerous location, such as fort smith). All that matters is that you'll be happy in life. Rock on, brother.

i loved Arkansas none of the areas seemed dangerous or anything. it was just a bunch of fields and a couple houses here and there. and the mountains were beautiful too

i actually live in Florida, but if i couldn't live in Florida, i would choose Arkansas

Ft. Smith is far from the worst Arkansas has to offer, but it does highlight the comparisons I made earlier in this thread.
That's the problem: if Ft. Smith is considered dangerous, then a significantly larger portion of the state is to be avoided, rural areas included. Ft. Smith is extremely typical and average for Arkansas.
I'm not saying I personally think the crime is that bad, but the viewpoints from transplants are fascinating.
