Default U of Arkansas

I might be attending the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in the near future to pursue a Ph.D. in English literature. What I'd like to know is how is the immediate area surrounding the University? I will be looking for an apartment off of the campus. Are there any areas I should avoid or seriously consider? Any apartment complexes that I should avoid or consider? The max that I'd like to spend on rent is $600 if possible--if I can get lower I am definitely not opposed to it. Thank you.

Glad to see your considering Arkansas. As for places to avoid well, to be truthful there really aren't any. Yes, there are more desirable places but there really isn't a bad place. As for which apartment complex to look at I couldn't tell you, I have never lived in an apartment.

We lived in complex called Oakwood Place for a long time. Very close walk to campus, nice little neighborhood. You can easily walk to downtown, the city library and Dickson Street of course. They're on West Putman St. I think we were paying $320 for a 2bdr but that was 10 years ago. I have no idea what they rent for nowadays.

There really aren't many places to avoid in Fayetteville. Having said that, you probably don't want to live south of 6th Street. Also, Colonial Arms Apts are not the most desirable.
