I was in Jonesboro last week, too. I guess it depends on how long you've been gone to determine what is "new"
Newer bars/clubs/restaurants I found myself in/on/around:
El Matador - Used to be Jose's. New name, same problems so I hear. Nothing to fear for your life about though...
Piero's - Right across the street from Matador
The Brickhouse - 5 dollar cover charge my @#$%
The Electric Cowboy - These things are everywhere..
And there is the new mall, which was apparently designed by a team of anorexic architects. Smallest stores I've ever seen. There is also a lingerie shop on 49S named Seductions where Ed's Catfish used to reside. Last time I read The Sun online all the bluehairs were apparently trying to get a new ordinance or rezoning done to push them out of business. I'm not an avid lingerie buyer, but its a shame to hear about people trying this crap even after that Mombays or Behind the Door or whatever its called is still in business and it is a pretty obvious head shop. Actually, maybe it isn't in business anymore...I haven't driven through that part of town in awhile myself.
They have public transportation.. those JETS buses which just seem like a waste of money to me for a town laid out like Jonesboro, but I do have my own car so..
They seem to be finally renovating the parts of downtown that aren't located on Main St. also-- encroaching on the ghetto territories near the college. It is funny to me how the downtown nightlife and those pockets of hell (Creath Ave, "Da Heights", etc.) can be so close. You truly do NOT want to be walking around Creath at night, unarmed and alone, and yet it is like two blocks from Main St.
Jonesboro Schools has some sort of magnet school. Valley View finally has a football team.
The gap between Paragould and Jonesboro is decreasing every day it seems. Pretty soon it will look like a mini-NWA.
Now if I could find a job there in my field I'd go back in a heartbeat.
