Greenwood, Ark.
Hello. My name is Stacy and my husband and I currently live in Ohio. We are thinking of relocating back down south and are currently looking at a house on Edgewater Road in Greenwood.
I was on another forum last night (reading only), and noticed that several people thought Greenwood was a very unfriendly place to live. Can anyone give any advice on what they may have meant.
I was born in Ft. Smith in 64, moved away long time ago, and was raised in Shreveport. Truly don't want to go there again, but our son, and grandson, are there so that would put us much, much closer.
Thanks in advance.

Greenwood people aren't very sociable towards people who weren't born and raised in Greenwood. As an outside, I would strongly suggest you steer away. You might want to consider south Ft. Smith, Van Buren, or Alma.

Thank you very much. I appreciate your response. I wonder why that is?

Stacy,
just wanted to let you know that, I moved to greenwood about a year ago.. I find the people to be kind, friendly and warm. I have never had anyone treat me like I wasn't welcome. I also have extended family members who have moved here, and all of us truly feel welcomed.

Stacy,
Of all people I would say I should know about how you are treated. I am from New Jersey, yes a yankee, and moved to Arkansas, with no ties to the town, ten years ago. The people are very open to new people and treat everyone equally. I don't know how anyone could say anything else. I don't know if you moved yet or made a decision, but don't hesitate to move to this great town. I'll be the first to greet you.
Will Dawson

Boo-ne-ville is nice. Greenwood is in Sebastian County, your taxes will be more there than Logan County.
2008 cost of living index in Greenwood: 88.0 (less than average, U.S. average is 100)
2008 cost of living index in Booneville: 82.7 (low, U.S. average is 100)

Well Stacy. I also am heading that way so if noone talks to you then you can contact me here.
I have researched till blue in the face.
I am wanting either Van Buren or Greenwood but will probably rent first in Greenwood for a bit to find a home.
I have looked at the maps here on city data and other places for the toxic stuff and Van Buren has less but Greenwood seems safer crime wise for some reason.
A lot of nice houses in both it seems.

Coming from Houston area they both are much better though.

When I go to either place I am much more worried about the small town cops than the criminals . Moffet is the worst though. I have some black friends that got pulled over and they had like a dime sack of weed. They all had to pay a $600 fine to get out, cash only no checks. It never showed up on their records.

Can you explain what exactly worries you about the "small town" cops in Van Buren or Greenwood? Moffet is a rather harsh comparison, neither Van Buren or Greenwood has been investigated as a department like Moffet has. Both cities have good police departments and both share a relatively low crime rate.

Yes, Moffet is much worse than Greenwood or Van Buren or Hazzard county for that matter.
I'm still on my best behavior in Greenwood and Van Buren though, I'm no dummy. I'm not a cop hater don't get me wrong, I just try not to cross them.
