OK I will tell you why I say stay away from HSV,
1] They regulate you to death, I have met several people who have pulled out their hair trying to work with the self appointed block captains who think they are in charge of national defense, I will give you one example but it is one of a hundred I have heard, A retiring couple bought a home in HSV, they wanted to cut a couple of trees on their "OWN" property, The Gestapo fined them 200k for cutting trees on their "OWN" property with out a permit. After a year in court it was reduced to 20k, they paid and sold out. If you want to have some one tell you when to cut your lawn, and wipe, buy HSV. 2] The place is a maze of roads and takes 30 min, to get from the front to the back, When some one states as a reason to buy limited stop signs, watch out. You need a GPS system to navigate for the first year of living there. 3] It is full of anal retentive people and control freaks who love to try to run every ones lives they can, since their kids kicked them out and told them to live their own lives. 4] The attitude in the village is much more hostile than in hot springs proper. Go there and you will see the snooty looks you get until you "fit in" If bridge clubs are what you are after in life, find doc. Kevorkian and he can help you with what ails you, he is out now. |

Hi all,
The following is a bit long, but I found fascinating. I found an old bulletin board on the internet on google from who knows where, dated 1999 through 2000. It certainly looks like HSV has a storied past. Please advise and comment. I'm very much interested if this place in a snake pit, or if those posts are from bitter people with no pull in the village. FH ===== Hot Springs Village A R K A N S A S UTOPIA or CON JOB? Hot Springs Village (HSV) is nestled in the Ouachita Mountains of Central Arkansas, just fifteen miles north of Hot Springs National Park and fifty miles west of Little Rock. At this time, the Village covers approximately 26,000 acres. There are roughly 32,000 property owners and somewhere between 10 to 13 thousand residents, depending on whose figures you use. This is an absolute lie, it has never happened. Neither have the other 100, as only one property owner has ever been taken to court for work without a permit in 30+ years (he asphalt paved his front yard, including an area that was not in his yard). "Hundreds" ???? You sure exaggerate a lot. <<The place is a maze of roads and takes 30 min, to get from the front to the back, When some one states as a reason to buy limited stop signs, watch out.>> Its about 16 miles from one end to the other. About the same as Hot Springs, what is the difference? Except less traffic. More exagerration, I see a pattern. <<You need a GPS system to navigate for the first year of living there.>> Only if you are an idiot <<It is full of anal retentive people and control freaks who love to try to run every ones lives they can, since their kids kicked them out and told them to live their own lives>> Kids kicked them out? LOL.... No comment needed on this one. <<The attitude in the village is much more hostile than in hot springs proper. Go there and you will see the snooty looks you get until you "fit in">> Its the friendliest place I've ever been. <<If bridge clubs are what you are after in life, find doc. Kevorkian and he can help you with what ails you, he is out now.>> The bridge isn't for me, at least not yet. This area has some of the most active people in the world. |

That website has been down for several years, I'm suprised you were able to find it cached somewhere. Just about every line is a half-truth or complete falsehood. Very National Enquirer-ish.
One example of a complete falsehood, the number of cars passing through the gates is nowhere near the number claimed. Every vehicle has to have an window sticker or some other type of identification such as a visitor pass. One example of a half-truth, the author makes much about the Village Police Officers being Deputized County Sheriffs and this is somehow illegal, immoral, or just wrong. What's the problem? We are a community with paid Police Officers, just like thousands of others. We pay our firemen, animal control offiers, and greenskeepers too. Scarey huh? At one point, the website had a picture of two guys sitting on the ground, under arrest. The picture was stolen from the local paper's website (or scanned from the print). The caption was "another drug bust in Hot Springs Village". "Another" in this case being the second or third one in 20+ years. Oh my, there are people here that use drugs, at least two of them! I don't think anyone ever figured out who was runnning the website. I have always suspected James Ray, who latter ran for the POA Board, won, then resigned a year later. He didn't seem real stable to me, but that is just my opinion from a distance. By the way, I'm running for the POA Board this year. |

Our family has only graced HOT SPRINGS one time, but from what I got to see for my short few hours there, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL TOWN!! I loved the buildings and the differant architecture and the differant influences you can see just on the buildings.
I wish I could thank the elderly gentleman that gave my little girl a doll(tied it in a bag to our semi mirror)just for meeting each other in a passing moment in a parking lot. Gives me hope that this world does still has HEART! |

I'm surprised to find that post, long as it was, deleted. Was it you, Jeff, who complained ?? When I get time, I will post it again. I will do it for debate purposes.
I believe it was written by some nut myself, but I also believe the truth probably lies in between that kook and your cheerleading praises. The truth is usually somewhere in between. We can all agree on that. All I was doing was sharing some info I found that may be interesting for people interested in the Village. I also asked the question if anyone knew about it and if it was written by a disgruntled kook, or if there was any truth to it. Jeff, I realize you are a cheerleader for the area as you have a vested interested in promoting the area (always follow the money trail, people) and there is nothing wrong with that. The fact you are running for a board position, I'm glad you disclosed. I still say it was very interesting to read and, Jeff, for your own position, you should have wanted it kept up, so you could point by point, rebuttal to what you believe to be the truth. It would have been in your best interest. So, Jeff, are you the one who complained to forum police about my posts? Let us know. |

ok, fair enough. Here is the link to where I found that post and others. You can all read for yourself. As I said before, I'm sure it was written by a malcontent or someone who didn't win an election, or something you like that.
Here it is. Enjoy and take with a grain of salt. http://groups.google.com/group/soc.r...6dafaa3013ddc9 http://groups.google.com/group/soc.s...25c8da691a996f It was a simple google search. Search in google groups and type in hot springs village and your jaw will drop with all of the old discussion you can find. Peace. |
