Moving to Hot Springs
Hello All,
weare is tired of the "rat race" too here in the California (Canyon Lake) area and we are moving to the Hot Springs area this in January. I've done a lot of research, but haven't actually talked to any of the people. We want to move onto a 5acres of land, but we wanted to be close enough to town for work. I'm Computer tech who specialize in computer repair and networks is there any work out there for me can tell me a good place to work? I am so excited about moving to your area! Any negatives about living in the Hot Springs area?
Dave

Hot Springs is growing by leaps and bounds. New construction everywhere-both commercial and residential. The public schools are good-best ones are Lakeside and Lake Hamilton.

Oh, lucky you! We visited the area while on the way to Oklahoma a few years ago - and I would love to go back and spend more time. I love the idea of the shops downtown, and the suburban feel not to far down the strip.
I really want to stay at "The Majestic". Looks so beautiful - and I could do with a good hot soak!
Congratulations - and keep us posted about job ops - always good to know where the market is!

You'll have to make do with The Arlington. The Majestic is being remodeled and converted to upscale condos.
I don't live in Hot Springs, but will eventually.
It's pretty, historic, and fairly sophisticated for a small city, yet also has great BBQ. What more could one ask for?

I go to Hot Springs once a year for about a week at a time.Hot Springs is growing but is considered a small town.It is also the town that President Clinton grew up in.Summers are hotter than a firecracker.Downtown looks innoccent but be carefull just outside the Convention center is a pretty rough neighborhood.Overall not to bad.

live here
Myself and my family reside in Hot Springs. It has the most beautiful lakes and state parks. I like all the schools and find them as good as the famed Lakeside and Lake Hamilton schools. Real estate here can be high compared to the income. I have had my house for sale in the high 170,000 low 180,000 for awhile but lesser homes and higher ones are readily available. It is a buyers market big time. Good home with good land may be a little more challenging but you will be in safe subdivision heaven. It may take a little effort but you will soon discover there can be lots to do in this little town. Compared to it's smallish population there are tons of resturants. Good luck on your move. My husband was born and raised here and with a few short stints in other states we have landed right back here in "God's country"

I am visiting hot springs as I type, I am in the san, Francisco bread company, where there is free wifi. Hot springs is neat, but here are the pit falls,
1] Property prices are high, 10k @ acre, homes are high, If you come from Chicago, NY city, any where in cal. you will like the price. but if you come form normal America you will feel like you are getting ripped off. Work is good for the most part, and you are not made to feel like a Yankee as most people here are form the north.
2] During the winter the horse racing on central [oak lawn] clogs up the traffic, You will need to learn the bypass and 88 to get around it.
I am told the summers are very hot and muggy, and the bugs are bad compared to south Missouri, The down town historic district has a concentration of the 19% black population [I am not trying to debate race] and this is where the high % of crime takes place,[you decide if they are connected] We found a super nice old home in the historic district for a reasonable price [homes in the historic district go for much less than any where in hotsprings as the demographics is what I stated above, not going to debate the race issue, it is a fact] but because of the people that live in the rentals behind the home, and theft being high, a home worth 199k is trying to be sold for 149k and no one looking.
The crime rate in hotsprings is much higher than the national avg. you decide why.
I have found cheap rent for a month and will finish my tour, but as for looking to buy a home, I am going to southern Missouri. much cheaper and no bugs, and demographics is much nicer. I am not a raciest but I do not want to deal with it either.
The population is taken with lake Hamilton here, they think the sun rises out of it, property prices on this lake is 2-600k for a lot, and I am told on the 4th of July, you can walk across the lake from boat to boat and never get wet. the lake is way way over sold as far as value.
If you go toward Bismarck, or Arkadelphia you will find nice property and a bit less, and with in 30 min of hot springs, Stay away from hotsprings village, it is nothing but trouble. if you want to know why, I do not have enough time to tell you here, the people who live there are referred to as "the village people" by the locals.

"don't have enough time to tell you here"... Priceless, how about listing ONE?
If he's going to bash HSV in multiple places, I'm going to respond in multiple places....
Greetings from Hot Springs Village! I don't have enough time to list all the reasons why you should consider the Village, but I'll give you a few (unlike our friend above).
(1) 26,000 acres, and only 2 four-way stops.
(2) One of the largest bridge clubs in the world
(3) 9 of the best golf courses around
(4) gated to keep you-know-who out hehe (sorry, couldn't resist)
(5) beautiful lakes, without the crowds of Lake Hamilton
(6) Underground electric and cable in the subdivisions
(7) Significantly lower crime rate than Hot Springs (about 25%) - see (4)

I have to agree with JeffAtkins. I have owned property in "The Village" for ten years. I plan to move there when I retire in four years and absolutely cannot wait. I go there once a year for a week and go golf crazy, plus, 15 miles from the west gate is Lake Ouachita state park. According to the EPA, Lake Ouachita is the second cleanest lake in the USA, it has no homes on it and never will, and you can get absolutely lost on that lake, even on the fourth of July. I look forward to becoming a "village person" and putting Nebraska in my rear view mirror.
