"Kitty you are a kind person with good morals, and if their were more of you the world would be a better place." -dusesean1986

Well, thank you for the compliment... I appreciate your opinion! Looks like both of us "scared away" the others, eh? LOL

Although if Beulah was truly "scared off" by a few posts from a message board, she will have a tough time fighting for diversity in the "real world"!

Kitty,

I can't help but notice that the original poster made the 'diversity' comments, and then disappeared without fully explaining them.

Sounds to me like all you good folks were duped by another TROLL other than those mentioned in this thread.

Here's one for you... Practice intolerance, because some things are just stupid!

Default Still looking for an answer

No I am not afraid. I posted my question right before a holiday break. I am not being mistreated. Actually the exact opposite. My friends come from different backgrounds and races and we get along beautifully. I don't have bad experiences with other races but a lot of people seem to. I would love to see that change.I am surprised by the answers. None of you answered my question. Have you fought for diversity or do you care. I want to know that someone out there cares besides me.

Hi Beulah...

I am very glad to see that you "came back" - and I'm sorry that the conversation got so far diverted from the original question. It seemed some posters were more intent on attacking what they saw as "liberal views" than anything else, so of course we jumped in to defend them.

I would be interested in what "methods" you have to fight for diversity. I live in about the most WASP-y area ever, and although I am white, I am considered different as I am an immigrant, and I don't look the same kind of "white" (I know this sounds ridiculous, but believe me after five years here it is true) as the majority of the people here.

I have tried in my lifetime to change the viewpoints of others, but to no avail. I have argued, joined groups, been vocal... and nothing seemed to ever work.
I definitely care about diversity- more than anyone else, it seems at times... but these feelings get very deflated when you are shot down time after time. I miss my old city where there were a lot more "flavors" of people to be found.

How are you planning to fight? what can we do to help, or perhaps you can help us? How to approach the issue when it seems people are so hostile?

Default Fighting for Diversity

Thanks for your cantor. I admire your remarkable ability to honor diversity in the midst of all this disorder (racisism and neglect of the law). It is amazing how rediculously stupid some people can be though. You are lucky to have such good friends from different backgrounds and races. Hang on to those friends. Keep what you have strong.
We can't put a lable on a race when there are so many individuals in the world. We are individuals first, then part of a group (family, race, sex, religion, community, nationality...)
The most wonderful thing about America is that our constitution is based on honoring and respecting each other, in the midst of diversity.
The only problem with "fighting" for diversity... is that we end up fighting diversity. The law of attraction prevails. What we need to do more of is to embrace diversity and hope to encourage it more among others.
Most people don't know how to accept others that are different than themselves. There is a lot of resentment in the world over the abuses of the past (those events that dusesean1986 spoke of) We need to move on, but move on in a way that does not treat any group of people any different than another. We should all live under the same law and obide by the same set of rules. No double standards.

Kitty,

Thank you for the reply that I was hoping that I would receive from someone. I was sure someone was out there. I am working for a local civic group that has the same concerns that I do. We are forming a "task force" so to speak, to sit and discuss the issues that minorities are facing in my city. I don't know the next step after that one. I know the answers will come from meetings like these. I am very excited. We have managed to gather just about every race represented in my area. I will let you know how it goes.

I can relate to your points here. Even "whites" have a lot of diversite among themselves. I hate to use the term white, because we are all from such different cultures (Irish, English, German, Russian, Australian...), and we are put in the same category by many races. I think we differ mostly because of our socioeconomic status. People will hear only what they want to hear, or they won't hear it.

Where is the old city? Were they accepting of each other? Did they mingle with outsiders, or stay in their own groups?

Beulah,
There have been many people who have responded to your thread.
You seem to be intent on getting a response that confirms what you already know. It is ironic that you want to fight for something that you don't seem to posess yourself. If you are going to stand up for diversity, you are going to have to be open to those that may be different than yourself. You don't have to agree with everything everyone says. You don't even have to like it, but honor it and acknowledge it with the same respect that you are demanding for yourself.

This is the same narrowminded attitude that creates havoc in a diverse society like ours. Look at all of the judgements and labeling that has taken place here on these threads. Not cool!

See, now that is something I would be interested in as well. I should add also that I ended up posting on this Arkansas board even though I live in "white bread" PA because my best friend is possibly moving there, and I was worried for her exactly because of all these issues. I know that around here one would be hard pressed to find any diversity at all.

I would really like to hear how the meeting goes! It would be very interesting and informative to get some feedback on how others might deal with such problems.
