Question Hot Springs Neighborhood Info Please

Hi - Does anyone know anything about the area near Greenwood (I think it is) Cemetary around Hobson? Off of Grand and West of Hwy 70.

How about the residential area north of downtown on the other side of the Park/Reserve?

I ask because there seem to be some very reasonably "cottages" in those areas and I wondered if they were in the "bad" parts of town that I have heard about.

I am looking to downsize and looking for a little place for just myself. Will I be able to find something "cute" and safe for under 100K?

Thanks for any replies!

My cousin lived across the road from Greenwood cemetery when I was a kid and it was not in a good part of town. Not necessarily scary, but I would definitely characterize it as sketchy. It has been 7 or 8 years since I have been to that part of town, but it is definitely not one of the nicer parts of the city, that is for sure.

I know less specifically about park/reserve, but there are a lot of bad areas north of downtown. I personally would steer clear anything north of downtown on or around E Grand. At least without looking *very* closely at the neighborhood.

Default Good To Know

Thanks. That is good to know. Do you know what the "good" parts of town are? I am past middle age but very active and love living in a "town" where I can get out and walk, etc.

Although I will be visiting HS later this year, it helps to have an idea of where to look and where to avoid.

Thanks again

I grew up in the south part of Hot Springs and have family there, so I know the most about that area. Generally anywhere in the Malvern Avenue area south of Country Club drive is a nice part of town. Anything along Carpenter Dam is also nice. Going farther south towards Malvern gets more rural, but also very safe and nice. If you have questions about another specific area, I'd be happy to answer them.

I'd avoid the downtown area just east of the convention center, and some of the area just west of Park. Some of that area is kind of sketchy, but some of it's quite nice. I also really like the Quapaw-Prospect historic area just west of Bathhouse row.

Are there Victorians in the historical district? Or anywhere else in Hot Springs? What other type of archeology is in the Historical district?

Yeah, Hot Springs has some gorgeous old houses, especially along Prospect backing onto the National Park.

Default Hiking/Biking Paths in Hot Springs

I'm researching Hot Springs as a retirement option. I've read about the natural hiking trails but are there any 2-3 mile paved walking/biking paths in the neighborhoods or parks? Thanks.

Thumbs up How is Hot Springs treating you?

I have been trying to move up there for two years now. I have an aunt that lives there, and have always enjoyed visiting. i finally made a decision last month to sell my home here and do what you are doing. the kids are grown and gone, and it's just me and my pups. Let me know how you like it there. Maybe when i get sold, we can keep in touch. it's a beautiful place up there.
