Nope. No birth certificate required when I did mine.

and what is up with being fingerprinted??

As I stood in line watching people getting pictures and being fingerprinted, I found myself wishing I had the number for the ACLU.

When I got to the counter the clerk asked - would you like to be fingerprinted for your protection?

I responded, no thank you.

I wonder how many other people do so without giving it a second thought.

The other nice thing is the SSN..if you don't want your SSN on your license, you can do so in Arkansas. (safety precaution, you never know...)

Just don't let it lapse and then you have to go thru some BS. And i didn't have to have a birth certificate when I moved from Missouri. BUt you need a valid licience from another state or you have to take the test.

My recent experience with renewing my driver's license in AR was a big surprise, although I have had a license here since 1961. However, the renewal now goes first through the federal Social Security system - a homeland security measure, I was told. So since my social security card has my first name and middle initial, and my driver's license had my middle name which I go by, homeland security rejected me. Even though all four clerks in the local AR revenue office knew me by name, I had to go home and get a copy of my birth certificate to prove that I was the same person as on my social security card. They had to fax the birth certificate to Little Rock to unlock the hold on my license before I could renew it.

I have forgotten and let mine lapse, as did my son only a week ago. Go to the revenue office, renew, and they will not even comment on the expired license.

That's kind of weird..because in order to proof you are the real person, they only have to match your fingerprints with the fingerprints they have in their data base...also I called yesterday to their phone in Little Rock and they told me only to bring my Arkansas Driver's License and a $20 bill..!!, so it means you can go there without any other paper or even your wallet!!
