Well, the only time I'm tree huggin is when I'm strapping in a new deer stand, so I'll jump in.
I've hunted Georgia, Tennessee, and Illinois extensively, and I really feel that Arkansas is the best I've hunted.
If you can get your own land, the possibilities are endless.
If you can't, I'm sure someone will give you permision to hunt, or you can go to one of the WMA's (wildlife management areas).
I have a farm, and between me and everybody around me, these critters eat *real* good. Some guys are even a little ridiculous about it, spending a lot of money to have corn delivered and they trough feed the deer.
I'm in Izard County, but it's the same in most parts of the state. Check the Game & Fish web site for the different zones, and extent of seasons.
There are two kinds of hunters here, basically. The ones who go out on season to bag their limit, and the ones that don't have a season.
Now, moral judgements aside, understand that when a farmer puts in acres of wheat and clover for those deer, has feeders around, and digs cow ponds just for deer, when he says, "I take a deer when the freezer's empty", nobody argues with him.
We just had Spring Turkey, and we all did good.
Around my area, a lot of businesses post "Season hours". You'll see signs saying, "During deer season, hours will be 1-5 P.M., or "Closed for turkey season".
Fishing is some of the best. Several *big time* trout areas, and plenty of catfish for all.
