Relocation to Fayetteville, AR
Hi,
Great forum!
Planning move to NWA shortly from England, UK. I have 3 young children aged 4, 5 & 7. Any thoughts/suggestions on good schools (I was told about Levertte, Root & Washington), areas to rent a house (typical prices?), restaurants etc.
We are a muslim family, could that be an issue?
Thanks in advance

from my research, it appears that Root and Vandergriff are the highest rated elementary schools.

Vandergriff i think would be a good choice. I was one of the people that attended the first year it was opened(I attended 2nd grade on there), before that i went k-1st at Butterfield which was not so nice lol. Lots of good neighborhoods around Vandergriff too.

You're religion will not be an issue in Fayetteville. There's a fair number of muslims there already.

Being Muslim, I think Fayetteville would be a good choice, some of the areas maybe not so much. Fayetteville is more liberal with a larger mixture of relegions and cultures.

Any ideas about renting (cost)?
I have seen some houses that are around $1000,that seems a lot for Arkansas but then again I dont know the area
Is any one from Fayetteville, maybe you can give me some ideas about places to live and what there is to do for the kids.
Thanks

$1000 would be a lot but there are 5 of you, I would guess you want 4 bedrooms a couple of baths, a good neighborhood, nice kitchen and nice yard. Many places I can think of, like Calif, and a few other states, a 2 bedroom apartment is well over $1000.00 a month.

All schools in Fayetteville are well regarded with none being in a district to avoid. 'The New School' is a private option in Fayetteville you may want to look into. Check it out at: The New School: Excellence in Education Since 1971
The only complaints you may hear in Fayetteville are the school(s) that are on an extended calendar year and that Leverette is a transient school being so close to the university.
I will say that if your looking for diversity, Vangergriff is mostly middle class white kids where as some of the other Fayetteville schools such as Butterfield, Root and Holcomb are much more diverse.

Oh, I bet they could live with a 2-3 bedroom rent house. Ever hear of bunkbeds? Why throw away money on a rent house?

Well 3 bedrooms, yes, but 2 bedrooms with 3 kids: that would be very crowded.....
