Kelli, I emailed the photos the same day as the post last month. They were sent to "kelli@globalgrl.com". If you didn't receive them let me know.

I know this is an "old" thread and most of the queries are for retired/retiring people, but I decided to make this post just in case someone was interested. The Arkansas Policy Foundation has graded all the school districts in the state using the 2007-2008 ninth grade SAT scores and giving grades "A" through "F". I'm happy to say Mena received an "A"!!

We're still hoping but things have sure gotten hobbled for us. We've had some family issues with some of the (adult?) kids, and haven't been able to find "the right" piece of property yet. This economic mess has not helped either, as we've seen our current home drop over $80K in value... and we're not sure it's bottomed yet. Arkansas is still in our heart, and if patience is of value, and age doesn't overtake us we'll make it eventually.
Thanks for asking, and take it easy my friend.

Hang in there! Although it is hard to see and believe as it happens, I'm a strong believer that everything is for the best. I have had many life experiences to support and enforce that belief. Slim

Although we were disappointed that the Gospel Singer Competition and part of the Mountain Fest had to be canceled, being desert dwellers we enjoyed the rain immensely.
I can agree with your husband about flying, but unfortunately I'm not big on driving 1300 miles (or 2600 two ways) either, so transportation is always a problem for us. We can take the train to Texarkana, but getting to the train from where we now live is a problem. We ended up taking the plane this time, but our next trip may well be by bus. Although you can take the bus all the way to Mena, there is no rental car or taxi there, so we would probably get off at Ft. Smith, rent a car and drive down. That's what we did when we flew this time. By the way, we had to fly over to Memphis, and then back again to Ft. Smith. Your choices seem to be Memphis, Atlanta, or Dallas. I'm sure you'll enjoy your March trip.

For the past few years, my husband and I have used our vacation time to ride our motorcycle through Arkansas. We have decided that we will move to the Mena or Quachita area as soon as we can get our children convinced that this is the best place to be. ( You see, we are central MS folks and we are completely ready for a change! ) Although I am close to retiring from the State of MS, I'm surely going to have to continue working, as well as my husband. My son is a HVAC specialist, daughter-in-law is a beautician. We are very impressed with your public school statistics because we now have a grandchild, 4 months old, and we would like her to attend a wonderful public school. Our children had to attend private school because of the poor public school system here (it is rated a 1 now). We want things to be better for our grandchildren. In this area of our state, you are wise to stay home at night because of the consistent crime. It is even hitting our small town of 5700. (Four murders last year.) Mena, AR looks very appealing to us and we have booked a cabin so we can come up and start looking around for real-estate. If you have any suggestions as to where to start looking, we would certainly appreciate it. We would prefer land so we can all build and live close by.
Arkansas really is God's country. (We also like your former governor-Mike Huckabee!)
Also, how big is the Presbyterian congregation there?

Only 5,300 people? I always thought Mena was bigger than that.
