I was in Mena today. I was just passing through and it didn't occur to me to look for tornado damage, but i didn't notice anything. I am sure that if I was paying attention and looking for something, I probably could have seen damage.

Most of the noticeable damage is on the north side of hwy 71 a few blocks. You probably won't see much damage because most has been cleared. What you will see is many vacant lots where houses once stood and some rebuilding. Also, there is a noticeable lack of trees compared to surrounding neighborhoods. Go to Pictures of Arkansas on Page 18 to see some photos that I posted of the damage the day after the tornado. Notice that some of the debris has already been cleared from the roads.

We have a house that is left with some damage on the north edge of the tornado area and it is hard to picture how nice it was in that area previous to the tornado. It is a shame so much damage and loss of life was experienced. Driving through the area now does not even seem to be the same place.

I have posted this in the past, but FEMA took down my Mother's house and my Sis still has a house in Mena with some damage to the outside wall. She was one of the lucky ones because her only major damage was the roof which she has had replaced. I was there right after the storm but haven't been back since the "clean-up".

I don't know what happened, but this is supposed to be on the Exploring Arkansas Thread. Did I again?

The post Civil War document photos were supposed to have been posted on Exploring Arkansas Thread but I carelessly posted them here. To see the narrative that goes with them go to Exploring Arkansas and post #216.
