Just have fun! The diamond mine will probably be disappointing (collecting wise) but it is interesting and is an experience to have. What most folks do not know is that there are actually about 5 diatremes along the base of the Ouchita Range and the diamond mine is in the easternmost one. The others are not open to the public.
You will not be disappointed if you go crystal hunting, you will always walk away with something whether it be a bunch of small stuff or a fabulous cluster. Make sure that before you leave, you ask how to properly clean the crystals to get the stains off (you can PM me when you get back if you need help).

i just wanted to leave an update because we have returned from our trip. we loved AR an absolutely gorgeous state! wish we had more time to spend in hot springs but anyway here goes.
crater of diamonds was a bit of a disappointment as people said it would be because even though finding diamonds is unlikely, even finding any other good rocks was near impossible. stayed at the queen of diamonds in murfreesboro and really liked it.
went crystaling in Mt Ida- highly recommend. we got lots of really nice crystals at bear mountain. we stayed at the crytal inn in mt ida (stayed in mt ide for 2 nights) this was about what you'd expect for the price but nice and clean. we even went in the pool and it was nice and clean too.

we had a great trip. thanks everyone for your help!
