Howdy, my name is Joe Stewart. Our family - Myself, Wife April, and four children - would love to become a part of your growing population. We are excited by the notion of moving to the most beautiful country in the Ozarks. We are both wanting to find work and make a smooth transition into your community. I'm an expirienced Truck Driver, Welder, and craftsman(carpentry, remodeling, and industrial). My wonderful Wife has been a Stay-at-Home Mom for the previous thirteen years, and now would like to re-enter the workplace. She has no "formal" education, but has a strong work ethic and is a quick study. We are looking for a place or piece of ground to build or buy outside of Mtn. Home but, close enough to commute to town for employment. We are not "JayHawkers" and have family and roots on the north end of Bull Shoals Lake. My Grandfather was born and raised in the small towns of Ozark County. I spent many-a-summer (since birth) swimming and boating on the Spring-Creek arm of "The Lake". On our frequent visits to the Lake and my Grandparents my Wife and Grandmother have made many shopping trips to Mtn. Home as well. So I guess you could say that we have been putting down roots of our own already. Any info that might help us would be greatly appreciated. Thanks; The Stewarts

Well.....apparently yer not a 'carpetbagger', either.
![]() That cracked me up. However, that's gonna help your transition if you're going "small town" or country. Probably the first thing you'd want to do is grab a map, Moderator cut: edit, sorry no specific company referrals other than realtor.com , which has a plethora of listings from various realtors. That will give you an idea of prices in any one area that you're looking at. It does vary depending on terrain and demagraphics. Obviously, the closer to either lake you get to, the more expensive it is. The Mountain Home area is a huge tourist draw, and there are a number of areas that you'll see million dollar plus houses. There are also areas that are affordable, and that's where the computer work will help you narrow it down. Then, take some time and get family/friends to recommend a realtor, and go from there. With the skills you have, you won't have any trouble finding work in the area. I'm sure your wife could find something, even if it's just tourist season work. This link may help with showing what's available in the work force here. https://www.arjoblink.arkansas.gov/a...search_dsp.cfm
I also recommend looking at our local paper online baxterbulletin.com | The Baxter Bulletin | Mountain Home news, community, entertainment, yellow pages and classifieds. Serving Mountain Home, AR I see lots of jobs all the time for truck drivers. I do know some of the larger business, Baxter Lab and Eaton do require a H.S./GED diploma and they will aske for proof of education. Let me know if you have any questions I will be happy to answer them for you. |

This touches on a subject that I need some info on. How does one go about finding a reputable builder? My husband & I already have our land & we really like the idea of a modified log home. Has anyone here built a log home or know of someone that did a good job building one?
Thanks, Spottydog |

Spottydog02,
One place you might want to start is by picking out a set of house plans. Home & Garage Plans | Home Building Plans: Modern and Contemporary | Find Your Dream Home Plans There are probably other on the web like this as well. Then look for a contractor in the area you will build in. |
