Southernman72 is on a distinguished road
I was born and raised in mena and about to move back after serving in the Army and trying out life in Texas. I wander how many of the posters who keep saying theres nothing for the kids to do but use drugs are parents. You have to be involved in you kids life, folks. I love it there and cant wait to get back, already have several good job offers. Its all what you make it.

I spent a lot of time in Mena a few years ago investigating the Municipal Court System. At the time, it was common knowledge, if unspoken, that Mena wasn't the place to be after dark if you were "of color". Mena isn't the only town like that of course and I thought...had hoped...attitudes had changed. Maybe not. That would be one good reason I personally would never choose to live there.

Wilhelmena State Park is nearby. Oklahoma isn't far away. There's a bit of history involving drug running, I believe. The surrounding scenery is beautiful...the drive from Hot Springs to there is one of my favorites. When we were last there, I noticed several new additions, business-wise; the town looked "spruced up". Still, not enough to lure me there as a permanent resident.
