thanks so much again. I'm going to offset the one post i saw with your obvious love for area.

I swim in the lakes all the time. And I am still here. Snakes are no big deal/ Their three swimming pools in Cherokee Village. I think it's $27.00year to use them, Or $2.00 a day. No snakes in the pools.

Harte, I was on my way out the door when I posted, so I hurried. Let me add a little bit more.
Here's the village's website: Home Page which will give you an overview of the area.
Here is a link to "Village Pride", where you can click around and look through some of their pictures, they have a great organization there http://villagepride.50megs.com/
Ticks and chiggers favor brush and tall grass, you know, non-groomed areas, and you're not going to find much of that in the village.
The area has easy access to dining and grocery stores, and is not that far from the major recreational areas such as Norfork Lake, and the cities like salem and calico Rock where you'll find a lot of neat shops, eateries, and antique shops.

The water in the lakes is really clean and there are people always swimming in them.... you can jump right in from your dock! Also there are two rec. centers and both have pools one
in Sharp county and one in Fulton county close to Omaha lake, and it is the nicer of the two with 3 pools and even a todler pool.
boating is very popuplar here also along with pulling inflatables behind the boat... we moved here from California and just love it...

Great information thanks all its appreciated, almost have wife talked back into it You've all been very kind.
Ok What about shopping we know about Walmart in Ash Flat, beyond that where would the closest Target, Sears or major department store be ?
We also are wondering about groceries we've been unable to find a significant outlet near there. Is there only country grocery stores?
How far would we have to travel to load up on groceries at a fair price?
We heard there was a Mcdonalds in Hardy that was torn down. Is there any other fast food? Movie theaters?
Sorry folks hate to ask for so much info, it just really is hard to guage what we're getting into and are really appreciating this resource with your detailed answers.

The local Wal-mart is a super center and has all the groceries you would want, plus there are two other local grocery stores that offer the same, one has a full deli in it....
There is a small local sears, your next big shopping area is Jonesboro which has a nice big mall that is only a couple years old and it has all you could want and Jonesboro has a nice selection of restaurants, it's about an hour and 20 minutes away... Also you have West Plains, in Missouri which has some shopping also and some nice restaurants and is growing a lot.. it's closer than Jonesboro. Hope all this helps......

In addition to Jonesboro, there's Batesville, which is closer. Batesville is a larger town, and has some good dining spots, Home depot, a Sears store, a number of chain businesses, and a very cool Main Street with houses from the 1800's, Magnolia trees in the yards, etc.
There's one movie theatre, it's in Highland, it shows two movies.
Hey....we got DVD rental, ya know?
The two main grocery stores are in Highland (very close), which also tends to run some great deals, and in Hardy, which, in true southern style, when you get done shopping for groceries, there's a Glock pistol display at check-out where you can pick out your favorite model.
That one just cracks me up.
Fast food all over. Gotta check Catfish Heaven for their lunch buffet. Nothing fancy, just good southern mainstays. Always catfish, chicken, and mashed potatos & gravy.
There's a small Sears close by, mainly your basic appliances, mowers, etc.
As far as gauging what you're getting into..........
I have said this often....There's an Arkansas here for everyone that wants part of it. Cherokee Village is unique from a lot of the area. It's much more "refined", I guess you might say. For the most part, nice houses, with nice yards, pretty much any facility you might desire at your fingertips, and in this area, it's pretty much the best place you can live if you don't want the....how shall I say it..."southern experience", and still have the beauty and affordability of the state.
I don't mean that critically, it's just that not everyone appreciates pickup trucks, cammo, and Merle.
I respect everyone, so when I go over there to eat, I usually put on a polo shirt, khaki shorts, and top-siders, so nobody knows I'm part of the "hill folk". Get along fine.
I've mentioned before, it's an "undercover hillbilly" thing.
There's not much to not enjoy over there, if that's what you're looking for.
I can't tell you much about the tax structure over there, but it would certainly be lower than what you have now, I imagine.
For comparison, I live in the country, have 100 acres, all fenced, a new construction 1200 sq foot house, and a new construction 24 X 30 insulated shop building, and my taxes are about $850 a year.
My last house was on a city lot up north, 1400 square foot house built in 1871, and I paid $4,500 the last year up there, so you know I'm grinning.
Don't worry about asking too many questions, a lot of knowledgeable and friendly folks hanging out here, and they are here to answer questions.
Put 'em to work!

AAAAAARGH!!
Senior moment.....
Ya' got me there.
It *is* King Catfish.....*not* Catfish Heaven.
Thanks, Jeep.
Too many catfish places over the years.
Speaking of Mammoth, was at a little cafe down on Main street a while back called, "Out of the way cafe'", and had their "Mammoth Burger".
First time in a long time I've been surprised with a burger.
Two patties, side by side on a toasted french roll. All dressed up with grilled onions.
It was outstanding.
I'm gonna see if they can do a repeat performance before long.

We like Deep creek Catfish on Hwy 62-412 better than King Catfish And you don't have to leave as much money behind. Deep creek isn't as fancy as King but Iam not into fancy just good eaten
Deep Creek is about a mile from Walmat on the way to Cherokee Village. And they also have a good hambuger

I've eaten at Deep Creek twice, enjoyed both times, but was greeted at each with, "we're out of baked potatos".
You're right, though, good eatin'.
