Cherokee Village Info or Help Please
Hello!!!!
Hubby and I have just bought a lot in Cherokee Villiage on the Sharp County side. We are looking forward to building our home on our new lot for retirement. My husband loves to fish and hunt. We both love peace and quiet, and a laid back life. We have lived in a small town in Texas for many years, so we are used to a rural life. Would like to know what part of Arkansas Cherokee Village is in, is it Northeast, Northwest, or North Central? Can you see the Ozark Mountains from Cherokee Village? Is it pretty there? Is there a mosquito problem there? I can't wait to move there, but it will be about 5 years before we will be able to do so.
Thanks!!!!!!

We saw a photo of the lot before we purchased. We just don't know anything about the area. We were looking for a nice southern retirement community to retire in, a quiet peaceful place which we believe Cherokee Village to be.

Hello, and welcome.
I don't live in CV, but I own land there that I inherited *years* ago, and so I'm there from time to time. I live about 20 miles to the south in the hills.
OK...let me see if I can answer some of your questions.
CV is in more or less north central Arkansas. It is just north of Highland, and just south of Hardy. Check a map.
It is basically what we refer to as a "closed" community, as most of the facilities there, you need to be a resident to utilize, and CV'ers tend to keep among themselves socially.
You certainly won't have any social problems, there's considerable fraternization among the populace. There are grocery stores and a Wal Mart nearby, Old Town Hardy, a popular tourist destination, is about 10 minutes away.
The county is dry, but there's a private club in CV where one can drink. Package alcohol is available from Thayer, MO which is about a 20 mile drive to the north.
There are several nice lakes in CV for boating/fishing, and they're opening for the first time this year for deer season. Lots of recreational opportunity around the town. Good medical facilities.
Mosquitos?? I see bird feeders everywhere over there, so, yes, there are mosquitos. Birds don't eat bugs when gourmet seed is available.
No, you won't see the Ozark mountains from CV, but a short drive will give you some outstanding views.
You can access their online newspaper here: Villager Journal , but I would probably go ahead and subscribe to the mailed version, because I have noted a *lot* of things they leave out of the online version.
Are you moving from Texas? Some of the folks that relocate to the area are allergic to southern drawl, kind of like buying a boat when you can't stand being on the water, but, hey.....there's good folks around too.
You might also want to check CV's website: Home Page , it's real pretty.
When are you thinking about relocating?

We will be moving there in 5 years. We have to sell our house here, and wait till our son graduates College to be sure he doesn't need us for anything before we move off and leave him, and we have to have our house built in CV too. It sounds like we will love it there! The town we live in now has about the same population CV has, around 4,ooo We pretty much stick to ourselves, we don't drink or do drugs either. My husband usually fits in wherever we are, everybody likes him and our son, I have a harder time fitting in because I'm so quiet and shy. At the moment we live in Willis between Conroe and Huntsville off I-45 North, our son attends College in Huntsville, and hubby works in Houston which is an hour and a half south of us.

I suggest you take a vacation and check the place out.
They have rentals available in CV. You can see your lot, get your S.I.D. card, and use the recreational facilities.

I would say it is probably pretty around Cherokee Village, but it is a long way (I wouldn't call it a short drive, looks like probably over an hour to me) from even the edges of the Ozark mountains, isn't it? I'm thinking there aren't any real mountains until you get west of Harrison, and that looks like a pretty good drive from Cherokee Village.
If you're wanting to live where you can see the Ozarks, Cherokee Village is the wrong place. I'm with the others, you'd better get yourself over there and see if it's what you're thinking it is before you make any more plans to move.

North Central? you can not see the Ozark Mountains from Cherokee Village. C.V. is about 20 miles from Mo. state line. that's where you go for a 6 pack.
I hope your lot is all your hoping for, You can't really tell from a picture what it's like. Is it a lake lot? do you know the street it's on. PM me if you like and I'll have a look at it. But you need to come for a vacation and see for yourself whats it's all about.

Sorry if I mislead anybody. Being able to see the Ozark Mountains is not a big deal to us, just curious what the landscape was like in CV. We don't have a lake lot as that is out of our price range, our lot is on Seca Dr between Topez Dr and Hernandez Dr in the Shawnee Addition, we bought from American Land Co. We checked several lots out in many States not just in Arkansas looking for where we thought we'd be the happiest, and where we wanted to build our retirement home on. We currently live on the north shore of Lake Conroe with a Ranch on one side of us, and a Resort on the other side, and a Marina down the street from us.

I am sure everything will work out for you, but has been suggested, I would head up to CV asap and make sure, after spending a few days there, this is all you had hoped it would be. Seeing a picture isn't the same as seeing the land in person. I certainly am not trying to discourage you or sound negative but buying without seeing the land is a real gamble. Good luck to you and your husband, the next few years will be an exciting time for you. We are moving to Bella Vista next week and can hardly wait.
