i just saw this post as I am considering moving to hot springs...i was concerned about the live music scene and their acceptance of people who are not religious..i know there are other liberal areas however i am most drawn to hot springs and i dont want even colder weather...otherwise i'd consider NW...i am also considering little rock..

i don't need huge nightclubs and to bar hop but id like to know at least that there are good live music options in the city...year round...

also..are for shopping, i'm not a huge shopper, however, I also don't want to have to go to little rock for everything if I lived in Hot springs.....do you guys have regular stores..a mall?? I currently live in a resort city and most of the shopping is so touristy it is beyond the affordability of most middle class people so you need to go to the city an hour away..

thanks for info

Very rainy, wet, drizzly, cloudy climate.......Alot of darkness...........I find it quite expensive, considering how little work there is available.....

Not an up & coming area!.........If you buy property, may not appreciate at all..........People are NOT moving here! .....
Very little change or progress..........Not a creative area......

Serious methamphetamine problem.....Serious drug, alcohol, marajuana & pill abuse......But one could argue that the entire USA has those problems....

Folks are very nice & helpful outdoors......But there is alot of dirty laundry in the homes..........Incest, rape, violence, recreational abuse, anger issues.....

Police will ticket you for very minor things.....I don't appreciate that.......

Very stagnant.........Alot of house break ins & robbery..........
Nearby Lil Rock now considered one of the most dangerous cities in USA......

Not much to do after 6pm........Many places close early......Bad choice for a single person!.....

Excellent drinking water........Very rural..........Easy parking.....Very warm & windless climate......

I have been here for a 8 months........I will be leaving soon......

Interesting negative post. I worked in H.S. for several years, lived nearby and visited often. I can use any of your comments above and go to "pockets" in any community with 5,000 or 500,00 pop and find the same thing. It is so easy to have an experience, or hear about an experience, and paint the whole community with a broad brush. If circumstances permitted, I would be living there today.

Hot Springs is a very nice area. Lots of beautiful areas. I would not live in down town HS. Has too much of a bad element. Such as around Jackson house. This is a hand out for bums building and seems to have a bit of crime around this area.

There is a TON of stuff to do in Hot Springs. They have all kinds of great restaurants, shopping, live horse racing, casino, bathouse row (with a great coffee shop/brewery in one of the old bath houses). Documentary film festivals, and all the natural beauty you could ask for (tons of trails in the national park, hiking clubs, etc.) You can also take mineral baths at Quapaw Bath House, most relaxing thing you'll ever do and very cheap. Lake Hamilton is wonderful too for fishing, boating, etc. And lots of gyms and several with pools if you are into fitness. I got older and needed to be closer to good medical care. There are 2 large hospitals here, and if it's anything super serious, UAMS at Little Rock is about an hour away....where little rock children's hospital is, etc. Hot Springs also has several community fountains where you can go fill up your water jugs with wonderful water for free. It's a unique small city....something for everyone.
FANTASTIC dog shows at the Convention Center, this year several dogs from the Westminster Show came. The convention center is state of the art, and gorgeous, lots of interesting events are held there.

If you like to be a little more "away from it all" there is hot springs village. A wonderful natatorium with everything you would ever want, including an indoor pool, plenty of hiking trails, lakes, and clubs, activites, for just about anything you can join, whatever your interest or hobbies....it's gated. The only problem is if you like to do a lot of shopping, it's not for you, since Hot Springs proper is about 22 miles away.

I have no idea what NYCbrazilian is talking about, I have lived in NYC, New Haven, and many truly high crime areas and HS is nothing at all like that. Of course, every city has a few neighborhoods that are not the best, and HS has those, too. So does everywhere.
