NW Arkansas wild life?
ok, to all of you who have lived here longer than me and that is most of you: We have a creature roaming our back yard. I named her Glydis, but don't know what she is or if she is a he or she. From a distance she almost looked like one of our dark grey cats, but of course it wasn't one. She was low to the ground, moved pretty fast, is gray or appears to be: saw her twice, once about 7am and the other night just at dusk. At first I thought Armadillo, but I think she had to much fur. Now I am thinking Ground Hog. What do you think? Something is digging holes in our yard, certainly not a gopher, we had them in Calif and they dig tunnels. These are just small holes that go nowhere. Both times she was heading to our shed area that is slightly raised so she could get under it pretty easy.

When I first glanced at this header, I honestly thought somebody was posting to find swinger's clubs or adult toga parties or something.
Whew!!!
Groundhog is a definite possibility. They can get pretty good size, they usually kind of walk slow until the percieve a threat, like if you stepped out the back door.
Yes, they do dig.
They also like to live under structures.
Other than tearing stuff up, they're harmless.
Armadillos don't have fur....and they look like minture volkswagen beetles with four appendages, a tail, and a pointy face with beady eyes.

I vote possum. We've seen one before that was dark gray instead of light gray. I have a lot of them around my house and they dig a lot of holes. Shoot it and have you some possum belly and mustard greens....just kidding, that's what Granny Clampett would tell you to do.

If it is a possum I will shoot it. I love wildlife with the exception of possums and rats. I am not sure about the possum though as it didn't have that ugly skinny tail and I think was a little too big. Just my thoughts. Keep the answers coming. We will figure it out someway.
Roger, sorry I couldn't be more exciting: the wildlife as in adult parties might be more fun, but, at today is Sunday and we live in the bible belt, remember???

Maybe it is a Raccoon. They will dig for grubs, but usually do not make big holes like armadillos. They are usually out at about the times you see the critter in your yard. They sort of waddle when they walk. ( We live in the Ozark woods, and have almost every critter you can name here.)
I encountered a large copperhead while mowing our lawn the other morning. It disappeared into a hole before I could get my DH to dispatch it.

OMG , now I know why I don't do the lawns. I would have had a heart attack I am sure. I love the little creatures we see around here, but do not want to come face to face with anything like a copperhead, rattler or anything else for that matter.

Noooooooooo...............don't worry a bit.
When the words 'wild' and 'life' were seperated, and I didn't see that it was your post, adding in the......uh....."cultural diversity" of the drop-ins every once in a while.....
Ya know, the senior mind didn't click right, and I'm thinking, "No.....no....tell me I'm not seeing this".

Huh-uh....nope.....no way.
I've scratched my head on a few of these threads over time, but that one would really stump me.
The most risque' thing I've seen or heard since I've been in Arkansas was when my neighbor Cooter bush-hogged a hornet's nest.
Ya know, I thought I'd heard everything, I didn't just fall off the turnip truck.
I been to two dog fights and the state Fair once. I'm "cultured".
I spent 20 years working in Chicagoland, and I learned some new words from Cooter.
They say "Nothing runs like a Deere", but that one didn't outrun a nest of hornets with an absence of neighborly love.
