That article should almost be required reading for the people wanting to know if they'll be accepted here or there.

The majority of acceptance issues that I have seen both from living here and from these posts over time, haven't been, "Will I be accepted?", but actually more "Can I accept my environment?".

People seeking a cosmopoliton <as such> lifestyle in NWA or Little Rock will find that it is there if they seek it. It doesn't fall in one's lap.

It doesn't take much exploration to find that we also have people dressed in cammo and workboots, pick-up trucks, excitement over a new chain saw, takin' Sunday off, huntin'-season-yearning kinda folks.

And that's just at *my* house alone!

Really.....it's a whole lot more diverse here than people give it credit for, and thankfully we have enough good folks on this board from the different areas that will speak up and let people know the lay of the land in their neighborhood.

I know a lot of folks here, but I don't know anybody that won't accept anybody that's come asking questions on these forums.

They make very intelligent, interesting conversation, and most of them will give you a run for your money on formal education.

However, ya gotta get past the cow droppings on their boots, and the wad of kodiak in their cheek, as they fill their truck pulling a trailer of hay, before they can rattle off the places you can get a *real* bagel & lox.

We don't bite, and that growl you *think* you hear is just us tryin' to hum a 'Merle' tune.
Thanks!

We start our move to Bentonville Friday, I grew up in the south and look forward to coming back smalltown. We have been in the DisneyWorld area for the past 7 years. My wife isn't so happy being from New York as I already drug her through Alabama for 7 months

So where is that *real" bagel & Pizza to make the wife happy?

TIA

<scraping cowpie from boot..looking at the ground...stream of kodiak....a "walllll, now">

You won't have any problems with bagels in the Bentonvile area, I'll let someone more familiar with the locale advise, but their jewish community is not that small, and there's a demand.

For the best, catch the jewish food fest at the riverwalk in Little Rock next year. It's over this year, but shall return.

Pizza.....man, ya hit my hot button there.

I love pizza. I mean, I really love it. I do, though, hang my head in shame and standing among the crowd, will say, "I am RogMar...and I'm a pizza snob" (Helloooo...RogMar...WELCOME!). Now gimme my key chain trinket.

Yeah, it's that bad.

I have eaten pizza almost all over the world.

When I was in Sicily, I had a hired driver, and he took me to the mecca of pizza on a remote mountain in a large white alabastor building.

They grew their own veggies, and made their own cheese. It was in the garden at noon, and on your pizza at 5:00 P.M.

I worked in Chicagoland for 20 years, and made long drives to different suburbs to find mythical pizzarias.

Places where you have to call in, because it takes a couple of hours to prepare the dough, as they roll out paper-thin sheets, season it, roll out another paper-thin sheet, season it and stack it, and so on, until they are prepared to go on to ingredients.

Excellent does not do justice to their creations.

Then there's Pizzaria Uno, Gino's East & West, etcetera....

All blasphemy to use the word, "pizza" to describe their product as far as I'm concerned.

I've had the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Around here, there's a franchise called, "Pizza Inn". There are a number of free standing ones, and you'll see them in the fillin' stations sometimes.

Overall, with a couple of exceptions, the absolute worse pizza I've ever put in my mouth.

BUT!!!!

I have friends that say, "That's really good eatin'".

Point is, what passes for pizza for one person, doesn't for another.

I imagine that, being from New York, your wife likes Neopolitan style, as I do.

So, you know what......lets ask some NWA'ers about their pizza experiences, their favorite places, and please......let's exclude the usual chains like Pizza Hut, etc.

Where are the places that produce a really great, thin crust, gotta-be-crispy, nicely seasoned pie?

Anybody know of a brick oven place?

On a 1-10, I'm finding that getting above a 5 is tough.

Unless, of course, I make it here at Casa del RogMar.

Finding good pizza in Bentonville might be like finding good So western or Mexican food; we pretty much have to settle on what we have and be thankful there are lots of good eateries that feature other kinds of food, like bar b que and local fish. We haven't found a really good Pizza place but there is one in south Bella Vista in a small shopping center on the west side of 71. It is Chicago style and not bad. As for bagels, heck I haven't had a really good one since we left So Calif almost 30 years ago.

Tell her she may not find the food she is looking for but there are some super neat shopping areas like Pinnecle Hills just south of Bentonville. That should make her happy. You will get your small town southern, down home feeling and she can get her urban exposure. I would bet there are some decent bagel places in Fayetteville.

Nita

Fayetville and Bentonville have the most prestigious schools in the state. That's just as much a reflection of the Walmart employees and Vendors who move in to Bentonville from out of State and out of country, and the University influence on Fayetville- where the high school is literally within throwing distance of the University Campus.
I attend school in Bentonville and when we moved my sister was of elementary age. There are no neighborhoods to avoid, besides the more downtown ones that haven't been renovated recently with the rest of those on Central. Something you should look at though is the type of schedule you would want your children on. There are traditional and Year Round scehdules here Elementary wise. Traditional being the regular 2 month summer and Winter break etc.. With Year round having less of a summer but more random breaks in between.

Welcome to the area.

Hi, thanks!
As we are on the "traditional" schedule in England I would like to keep it the same for Bentonville (we can organise trips back to see family inthe summer break!).
I can relax a little now, knowing that the schools are decent.
Thanks again and take care!
