Default Advice for a vacation rental

I live in Houston and wanted to take the family on a trip to Arkansas this Fall.
We were looking for a house to rent for a week, near a lake, in the pines somewhere. A quiet place to relax and maybe rent a boat and drop a line, or just hang out.
Any advice from anyone? Someone at work recommended Hot Springs area, and another person recommended the lakes just near Missouri border, but I unfortunately have never been to Arkansas.
Thank you for any help.

Tony

If you really must have pine trees in particular, then stay south of the Arkansas River as the Ozarks in the north are predominately oak-hickory forests.

If you want to rent a lake house and boat? Cherokee Village in north Central Arkansas is about as good as it gets. Put Cherokee Village in your search you will fined allot of rent information..

Check out Shangri La area of Lake Ouachita. There are motel rooms and cabins to rent on the lake plus a marina for boat rental. There is a good restaurant there or it's not too far into Hot Springs. Pretty secluded area if you are looking to get away from the crowds.

Any reason you really want pine trees? Northern Arkansas has a fall foliage display second only to New England. There are some great driving tours if you are a "leaf peeper".

lol, sorry, any tree is fine!
I live in pine woods, and that was just the first tree that came to mind.
All trees are ok by me!

Thank you for the many useful posts, I appreciate it.

Then I would second the suggestion to head up into the Ozarks!

Consider renting something along the Buffalo and taking a day canoe trip...spectacular, especially in the fall! The Buffalo is a trip that won't be soon forgotten.

Another spot that is great is the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View - they have little duplex cabins...rent a boat at Jack's Landing and do some trout fishing on the White River...they were really catching them last weekend. You're right at the Folk Center, close to the Blanchard Caverns, and the music on the square continues into the fall in Mountain View. (As you can tell, I'm sort of partial to the area!).

Well i'd reccomend the cabins on Mt. Magazine or the cabin's a Devil's Den state Park. I think Mt. Nebo may have some cabins to rent as well. Good luck it will be well worth it!! Enjoy your time in Arkansas.
