Hi all
I am a retired N.Y.P.D officer and was hoping to get some help from the good people of Arkansas.
I am interested in buying a home in Arkansas and was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction.
I am looking for safe, quiet, nice local poeple and maybe a small plot of land (1 or 2 acres) Also must be a newer home.
It does not matter were in Arkansas as long as it is safe.
I know I keep repeating safe but understand I was a P.O. in N.Y.C so I put safe at the top of my list.
I have seen some very nice homes in the NW Arkansas area (lake Beaver and the surrounding areas). Is this a good area?
Any help would be very appreciated.
Kerry

Welcome kerrymac!
I don't think you'll have any trouble finding something you like. If anything, your biggest problem will be choosing from all the possibilities. I just went through the process of buying a home in Arkansas from long distance here in Michigan. I chose Horeseshoe Bend in Izard County, but there was a lot to choose from. I wanted mountain area, so that included almost all of West and North Arkansas.
There's oil land in the southwest, piney forests in the south and south central, and cotton and rice farms in the east. There's hardwood forests and several Corps of Engineers reservoirs all through the mountainous regions. There's Mt. Nebo near Russellville and Petit Jean Mountain near Morrilton.
So, do you want to retire a flatlander or a hillbilly? City or country living?

Bull winkles is about right, depending on the tepography you are looking for may determine where you will want to live. As for crime, I think the only area that has a high crime rate might be in and around Little Rock. Of course the bigger the city, the more crime as you know.
We live in NWA and have to remember to lock our doors as we feel so safe we almost forget. today on the way to church my husband asked me if I had locked the screen door into the porch and the sliding door. If we were still IN NM I would have paniced, instead I replied, I don't remember but don't think I did. Sure enough I didn't.

Arkansas is a beautiful and very safe state to live. If I could move there, I would choose either Hot Springs and its surrounding area for the mountains and lakes or Northwest Arkansas for its mountains and culture. I think the weather in the northwest is a little cooler and less muggy.
Maybe you'll start saying Hi, ya'll, instead of hi, all!

I think you are right about the weather here in the NW. So far, with the exception of a couple of days our summer hasn't been bad at all. I notice Little Rock is always hotter than here. Our priest just got back from a week's vacation in Hot Springs, said it was awful: as in hot!!! Mostly he and his wife just stayed inside and read according to him.
