Any Germans/Europeans in AR?
Hi everybody;
my husband and I just moved from NC to the Fayetteville, AR area. Although I've lived in NC for the past 6 years I'm originally from Germany (grew up there, was an adult when I moved to the States). I'm wondering if there are any other Germans or people from other countries in this area. We had a couple of German friends in NC, but it seems this area is a bit less international. I'd also like to know if there are any German/European restaurants or stores.
Thanks!

I'm originally from Switzerland (the German speaking part), now live in Ireland and moving to Rogers, NW AR in a couple of months. We have 6 months old twins which we are considering bringing up bi-lingual, but we aren't sure yet as my German isn't that great anymore
- I hear there is a small chain of tea shops/ cafes called the Crumpet Tearooms which are in the English style- there are at least two in the area, one in Rogers and one in Bentonville.
- There's a restaurant on 28th Street in Bentonville called "The celtic grill". They serve good Irish beer and have a full menu.
- Rick's Backery in Fayetteville is supposed to have some good European style pastires: Rick's Bakery Of Northwest Arkansas For Fresh, Delicious Baked Goods Including Cakes, Cookies And Donuts

There's a German/Czech restaurant in Eureka Springs called the Bavarian Inn I think. Not sure how authentic it will be. There are a pretty good number of Irish down here in Little Rock.

There is a restaurant and bar in Hot Springs called Brauhaus. I love going there, but I've never been to Germany so I don't know how authentic the food truly is. The owner is married to a nice German woman with a real thick accent and she is typically the hostess. I've tried practicing my German with her but I can't keep up.
I have also started noticing a few more German speaking persons in Jonesboro although I have no idea what would be attracting them. ASU I guess.

I would imagine that you could find quite a few Europeans in Fayetteville attending UA like the people mentioned above going to ASU.

There are a few (literally... like 5 or 6) German folk down here in El Dorado. How or why they are here, I have no idea, but they have been here for awhile. But alas, no businesses catering to that woefully underserved market...

On the AR wine market... I'm also not a wine connoisseur but we do have at least one winery trying to put out some quality product. I do agree some of the stuff being put in bottles would barely deserve being turned into vinegar though. If you haven't tried it yet, give Chateau Aux Arc a try. They actually seem to have some taste buds.

I have met several native Germans in Little Rock, mostly older (60+).
I am 4th generation German and there are quite a few of those of German descent who are far removed from their cultural roots.
