if want a good town thats fairly big and a great atmosphere, i would defenitly check out texarkana. You did say your husband wouldn't mind driving an hour to work? Well if thats the case then texarkana i think would be great. Good schools, things to do, and a nice place to raise your children. That is if your planning on living outside of el dorado. Hope i have been of some help

This may be helpful, my husband went to school in Junction City, it is 5 miles from the Louisiana boarder and 15 miles from El Dorado.

I like it here
I just moved from Arlington TX, believe me I was so afraid to move because I have 2 sons, one is 7 and the other one is 5, I heard so many bad things about the school that I was even mad to have to move here... My husband had to move becuase of his job and he bought a house, I though there is no way I am moving, I came to visit every weekend and at the end of the school year I decided to try...
I quit a very good job and I did not think that I would get anything like it in here...
Well, to make it short: my kids love the school, I am very happy with it too, I got a good job, I am not going to lie to you, you wont get paid what you are used to but there are a few opportunities and I love sitting in my back porch and being able to see deers jumping in my back yard and beautiful birds flying around. It is so quiet and nice, I have wonderful neighbors, my point "I am HAPPY"
There are not a lot of choices to eat and there are no places to shop, but I don't mind, I got to meet a lot of nice people and I am not moving away.
When I can we take a weekend off and go to Hot Springs and Little Rock, my husband fears that because he knows I am going shopping!!!
Just think about it and tey to visit a few times.

Posters are absolutely right about ElDorado. The only thing the town has going for it is Murphy Oil. There are, however, nice towns within 30 miles of ElDorado. I grew up in Magnolia, AR (25 minute drive down highway 82) and it is a clean, friendly town with no gang activity to speak of. It has around 10,000 people, the best public schools in the area and a state University. Check it out! Also, look into Camden, AR if you do not like Magnolia.

I grew up in Junction City, AR about 15-20 min. from El Dorado. I have no complaints nothing happens in El Dorado that doesn't happen anywhere else. So I don't understand why all of you negative nancy's have your panties up in a bunch, and frankly if you don't like it so much leave.

And I do not understand why you are resurrecting posts from 2 years ago.
