McClard's
Ok, It's hard to beat a local Icon, when they are nationally known for BBQ. Do a quick search, and you will find pages and pages of hits on Hot Springs based McClard's.
Besides that it's the Favorite of a former US President (Clinton), it's been showcased on TV (Opening of Evening Shade of Bert Reynolds fame), listed in Southern Living Magazine, and dozen's of major online review sites ... as one of the places to eat BBQ in the region.
Here is the hit list off their site
- Food Network's "The Best Of"
- Voted one of Travelocity's "Local Secrets, Big Finds"
- Voted one of The Travel Channel's "Top Ten Barbeque Restaurants"
- Listed in Southern Living Magazine's "40 Things Every Southerner Ought To Do
Not that I'm biased of course, nor is there any kicks backs, though if you live in Hot Springs for any period of time ... you will get to know the family ... since it has been family owned from inception.
In addition, Coy's Steak House, Bohemia, Mollie's, Hamilton House, and Mrs Millers ... have always been top spots in Hot Springs for Restaurants ... IMHO.
Just a bit of history, but the best Ice Cream shop used to be across the street from McClard's ... but sadly it was sold to become a fishing shop, then turned into other stuff. It was the first place I remember getting old style soda drinks along with hand made Ice Cream.
Also, there was a Burger joint close to McClard's build out of a Railroad car. They had the BEST Hambugers and home made pies ... but they have been gone for a lonnnnng time.
Good times ...

I used to love Mrs Miller's as well.
Bohemia also closed recently.
I always include Rocky's pizza on these lists.

Rocky's has the best pizza in Hot Springs IMO. I also like Rod's,Beano's,Hollywood, and Mustang's.
I'm sorry, but McClard's is overrated. Whole Hog is much better IMO ,but people will still go to McClard's just because of the history of the joint. I expect a full crucifixion, but oh well.

What are you sorry about? It's your opinion, and welcome to post it. But I would take issue if you are suggesting that people should not go to McClards because you think it is over rated. However, I would not expect anyone to take you to task over it ... so no "full crucifixion" ... grins.
To be honest, I like their tamale's better a than anything else. BBQ at all of these places is way too sweet for me ... Whole Hog included. But again, to each their own.
I'm really out of touch with Mrs Miller AND Bohemia going out of business on me. However, Hot Springs is a tough place to make a living, specially if you are off the main strip. With the whole Central Ave growth around bypass ... it's way to congested for me. Whoever designed that road system should be sent back to school.

I like the food at McClard's, and hanging out there makes it more fun. But as far as ribs, Smokin in Style on Albert Pike is better than McClard's and the Whole Hog.

..And the food at Cajun Boilers in HS is pretty great too, especially their peanut butter pie.

McClard's is not bad,it's just not my favorite. I can't take people eyeballing you when they're waiting for a table either. If you've been there, you know what I mean!!
I would add that Sabrena's Drive-In on US 270 just past the Mt. Pine road junction has the best burger in Hot Springs. Wow is it ever good! I would give 2nd to King Kone, and then I would go with Burgers and More. I go to King Kone more often than any of them though. That Sonic right next door sure didn't hurt them!
