Wellllll..... hate to break it to you, but trees and buildings do nothing to stop tornados. Neither do hills. Tornados follow the terrain, and, with strong enough winds, will plow through any building or tree that's in it's way.

True, tornados don't usually strike 'hills' like the Rockies, but they're a little taller than the Ozarks, which have tornados somewhat frequently. Many parts of Kansas have taller hills than anything immediately around Jonesboro, but tornados strike both equally.

I've never thought of Jonesboro as a tornado hotspot. Anywhere in the eastern half of the U.S. is prone to having tornados. Jonesboro doesn't stand out compared to many places in Oklahoma. It's not even the worst in Arkansas, either, if it's possible for one place in that state to be more susceptible to having tornados over another.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I wouldn't let tornados be a deciding issue if you're looking into moving to Jonesboro, and are comparing it to other places in the general region, most of which will likely be similar in the weather department.

My husband thinks I'm crazy for doing the same thing. Tornado siren goes off in Maumelle, I get the kid & cats bunkered down, and then I go outside to take a look. Perhaps I'm secretly a male?

Of course, I've also had the great fortune to be in a wonderful li'l ole' trailer many, many years ago when a F4 came through and destroyed a good bit of town, along w/ the injuries & deaths. Great amusement park ride. :\ Watching dryers fly mid-air past your head is oh, so fun!
