If any place in Arkansas was to get one, it would be Little Rock, and that is too close to Memphis and too off-the-radar to be considered. Probably not in our lifetimes.

But who'd have thunk that Oklahoma City would get a team?

I'm skeptical of it lasting in OKC long term, same with New Orleans who had the Jazz before and lost them. Perhaps a team would move to Arkansas one day, I'm not sure the NBA would actually expand there. Anything is possible though.

We will not get any major professional sports franchises in AR within the next 100 years. We don't have the population base nor the growth rate nor the income levels. The only way we could possibly get one is if Wal-mart more or less financed the team's debt and losses each year by paying for unsold tickets. What's the likelihood of that happening?? Nil. We will have to live with minor league professional sports and/or college teams. Anyway...why'd you want the NBA??? 82 snoozefests a year until the last 5 minutes...not worth the bother. I wish that nuisance league would go belly up.

Per the US Census, the Little Rock - North Little Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is the 74th largest MSA in the nation.
In other words, we're not getting any sort of big league team anytime.
OKC, which is #49, is the smallest market with a pro team (NBA) in the nation.

I agree with Stormcrow.
College basketball is the greatest and I watch as many on tv as I can and follow it nationwide in the paper and via internet.
I have ZERO intrest in pro basketball and I believe there are others like me.

I grew up in OKC, and as previously stated, I question the long term sustainability of a major league franchise there. They are getting it partly due to the success of the Hornets during the two seasons they were relocated from New Orleans, and the fact that the OKC owners of the Seattle Sonics basically stole the team from Seattle. The metro's size and income level are questionable. OKC also has a very small African-American community for a city its size, and that is one of the demographics that is usually key to supporting the NBA. However, unlike Little Rock, OKC has a very strong community pride, similar to that of NWA. What on paper looks like would be a failure might end up a success due to that pride alone.
