I have seen/belonged to unions through the years.
I have seen the world get offered in negotiations, with the body saying, "We want more", and they got it.
Couple your overhead, with the executive's bent heads, and it's a formula for failure.
Hey, BTW Nomadicus, I was at an auction in your future neck of the woods today.
I usually just go to farm auctions, but this one drew me because there was a decent John Deere riding mower with attachments there, and I could use a back-up.
Took my been-there-done-that buddy with me, looked at the mower, and he approved my max bid of $800.
So, I get over to the house, and there's a good crowd, and a guy much older than me < > and his wife were selling out. Nice selection of tools and this 'n' that.
About 3/4 of the crowd were obviously farmers, and about 1/4 CV'ers.
Bidding starts, I grabbed a couple of small items, and watch. There's this guy, long styled hair, cheap long-sleeved shirt with 1/2 tail hanging out, and a pair of polyester pants from 1972, bout 40 years old.
When he bids, he does it loud, and he's making sure he's not beat. After winning, he looks around grinning and nodding.
"I'm bad....uh-huh".
So we get to the good stuff. All I wanted was a roller, the kind you fill with water and attach to a lawn tractor for small jobs, and this mower.
We start on the roller, and ol' boy jumps in. So I figure I'll push.
It had a missing plug, and was rusty, but when we got to "new" price, I folded.
My buddy is elbowing me like crazy, because he thinks I'm going overboard on this roller, tthen he catches on.
We get to the mower, there's like 8 people bidding, then it drops to 6, the 3, then it's just him and me.
It was an '04, with one flat tire and a missing pin from the hood hinge.
When we hit '08 new price, I let him have it.
I said, "Well, I guess I'm done", and turned to leave.
The auctioneer was grinning.
I don't know how many slaps on the back I got walking out.
And Mr. "I'm Bad" ? Oh...he's grinning knowing he "got" me.
In the question of going to heaven or hell, I think my fate was determined a long time ago.
It's just a matter of how much fun I can have before boarding that train, now.

I too was forced to belong to a union years ago. I saw the good, the bad, and the down right out ugly. I saw whole assembly lines shut down waiting for the right person show up and pick up parts for a certain operator on the line to go back to work. That's not job protection. That's off shoring. Crying shame. If the whole country could see through my eyes for one week what I saw for years maybe some changes would be made. I know all union shops are not that way but maybe just a few to many are. You can't expect a service job earner to pay for what some union members produce. It's is not good for them. If we bail out the auto industry the question is how long before they come back to the cookie jar for more? There is no guarantee that vehicle will sell any time in the near future is there? Market forces should be allowed to correct the ills of the market before everything goes off shore. My 2¢ for the day. Glad ya had fun at the auction. Sounds like something I would have done.

Its a boat - and Charon, the old ferry man will poll you across your river of choice for a small coin.
1. Acheron - the river of woe;
2. Cocytus - the river of lamentation;
3. Phlegethon - the river of fire;
4. Lethe - the river of forgetfulness;
5. Styx - the river of hate.

Ya know, that reminds me, I've got a copy of the "Tibetan Book of the Dead", out in the shop somewhere. Leftover from college/I'm-so-hip days.
I should find that before a neighbor accidentally stumbles across it and thinks Im a subversive.

Hello all! I just stepped in hear to get a breath of fresh air and to get away from the "heat" of the rest of the Arkansas Forum Topics. I was browsing through some of our very heated topics these last few days and wondering what people who come here to find out about Arkansas must think of us?? Is it just me, or has many of our topics starting focusing on the negative of everything?? OK, now that I got that out of the way, did anyone see Peyton Hillis playing for the Broncos and scoring TWICE! I love to see Arkansas players making big plays in the NFL!

Hey, budette..............
You hit that nail right on the head.
Uh-huh, if I were checking in anew about now, I might not want to utilize these resources for my vacation plans.
In all fairness, that guy doing the paper on sundown towns DM'd me apologizing if he spoke out of place, and I assured him he didn't, just wrong time wrong theme.
Other than that, yeah.......
Ain't nothing right about this state.
I don't watch sports.

Regulars, please note that I have changed my user name slightly....I cleared my computer of cookies yesterday at the suggestion of someone on another site (I was having trouble posting on his site) and when I came back here, all my information was gone and it wanted me to log in. Couldn't remember my password and couldn't recover it because I never give me email on sites like this so it can't be harvested by those web-crawling thingies. So, my reputation is shot, but I'm not too worried about that, and if anyone wants to DM me, be sure you use my NEW name (all I did was add a "v" to "luv").
