It is a whole lot more than just a "formality" because you are claiming you own that personal property and will be taxed on this years assessment for next years taxes.

It has little to do with tags, as the state already knows which cars you own because title transfers go thru the state.

The county doesn't and thus requires yearly assessments.
If the state didn't require assessing before registration renewal, what would comply people to assess ? Arkansas' PP tax on vehicles would be unenforceable.

Judge Judy used to tell guests..........."if you don't know, just say........"I don't know"
I don't have to go to the assessors to renew registration. Not sure why, I guess they assume if we buy or sell any of the personal property, we'll make the changes then.

I was told, in Newton County, just like any other county in Arkansas, you are required to assess every year.

I've only lived 5 years in Arkansas but quickly learned that "facts" from locals regarding this issue were many times wrong.
You actually called them to find out? Is this really bugging you that much? It may be the rules by the state, but that doesn't mean they are enforced here. Like DC said, they probably just use the previous years unless told otherwise.

But no, I renewed all my registration without assessing anything.

Unfortunately, the flooding through Arkansas and Missouri have lead to several deaths, all completely avoidable. Please don't ever attempt to cross a swift moving current.

Our baseball boys did it last night; pulled another one out of the bag in the 9th inning.
