It was a 20 year old college student on a class related trip. It says she was re-positioning herself for a photo when she fell to her death.

She had to be very close to the edge for this to happen. If anyone has ever been there, you know how dangerous it can be is you get close to the edges.

I'm not sure it was a selfie, it said she was there with classmates. I took it as they were taking a group picture, but we will probably never know those details.

The last girl to fall and die was 19. I think this younger age group are more likely to see themselves as invincible. I know when I hiked it, I kept fussing at my then 21 year old son to stop getting so close to the edge. So very sad indeed. I can't imagine what the family is going through.

Totally agree Hollynla, the pain that this family, and the friends of this young lady, are going through must be overwhelming. She is with her friends having great fun one moment and then gone the next.
Nature is both beautiful and unforgiving. I have been to that beautiful spot, it is awe-inspiring. But I must say as I get older my distance to any "edge" is getting longer. When in precarious situations, I think of rock cracking, phantom winds, accidental nudges etc. Unfortunately the younger ones do not.

though I would probably not done what she did even when I was college age, I do think even we as kids thought we were invincible. I look back at some of the things I did and wonder how I survived my teens and how my parents survived my teens as well. At least I gave my parents less reason to worry than my siblings did. I was smart enough not to get caught and to know when to keep my mouth shut.

we will see; all we can do is hope for the best this season and remember it takes time to build a good team.
