A friend in Ashley County sent me a photo of her garden, huge tomato plants and cucumbers, planting okra and other goodies this weekend. Everything is so green! I forgot what green was!

Winter Storm Warning here, 4" of snow so far with heavy blowing snow. About 30 degrees outside. Freeze Warning tonight lows around 20.

Springtime...

yep, everything is green and in full bloom. It is wonderful, but we have the same problem as you: no, we are not going to deal with snow, but we have temp dropping from 81 yesterday, high to the high 20s or low 30s tonight. All of us with fresh tomato plants in the garden are crossing our fingers we do not lose them. I am not worried about much of anything else. The seeds will just not germinate quite as fast and the plants under roof will not freeze...but I will be disappointed if I lose my maters.

Talking with my Longmont, Colo. brother last night about his 12 inches of snow on his grass b/c the weather had been so warm there that the hard surfaces was melting the snow as soon as it landed. But more snow was predicted along with freezing temps. He said it was some kind of weird weather they were having from previous typical springs.

I remember "dropping mater plants" at the age of 9 was my first job for the 15 cents per hour. Doubtful if there were any social security contributions out of my pay at the time as the ponzi social security scheme hadn't been invented yet. LOL

In the 90's my girls worked in a tomato shed in Warren one summer for some extra cash. To this day they won't eat tomatoes.

wow, 15 cents an hour, that is like our first baby sitting jobs when we made 30 cents an hour. Several of us got together and decided to raise our rates to 40 cents an hour. All Hell broke lose, but our clients finally agreed. Today, I think the kids get about $5.00 an hour or maybe a little more.

My stars, I'm gonna FREEZE! It was 84 yesterday, freeze warning tonight. Nita, hope all is well in your neck of the woods - husband is in Gravette and says they almost floated off during the night. I saw a lot of rain/storm damage to hiking trails around F'ville on FB.

If I had any firewood left I guess I'd crank up the fireplace again. I thought we were done with winter...I am SO OVER cold weather!

About 1945 I made the California fruit harvest season and one of the many places I worked was a tomato farm. We were paid by the crate and when we took our full crate to the truck it was inspected and if one tomato was not ripe enough to suit the man, we did not get paid for that crate; but they kept the tomatoes!

Only got down to 36 at my house Nita so you should have been warmer. Wish you a continued "Mater" growing season.
