Dose everyone expect people in the street to be happy and cheerful when you go round with long faces.
I haven't read this entire thread, so I don't know if you're still reading it, but I think you have a pretty decent understanding of Arkansas. The one thing that I'd add is that the problem with the people isn't that they're unhappy, but that they're cynical, paranoid and spend too much time biting the hand that feeds them. People in Arkansas are afraid of losing their position at the bottom of the totem pole and will come up with every excuse to keep doing the same oppressive things that keep them there.

What a crock of ####, I assume you live in Arkansas, right?

You are absolutely right imo. It sometimes seems that some of the people on here view being #50 as something to be proud of. Last week we had one character talking about how great the schools in AR are -- despite the fact that AR overall routinely ranks dead last in every significant education indicator. Yeah, that's something to be proud of.

But that doesn't mean that there aren't great schools in Arkansas -- at any level (primary, secondary, higher, etc.)
