No, matto, I was simply commenting on the way things make no sense sometimes...Conway is very nice and probably actually has a lot more to do than VB, although I like VB a lot. I suppose it's a good thing we don't all like the same place or we'd be stacked up like NYC....not good for this country girl!

Here I placed you as a male. I'm sure Conway has more to do, I hope it does anywho, it's three times larger.

Hopefully one day we'll become a wet county and see more restuarants and business move in. It's a safer alternative to Fort smith.
one thing we really liked: Western Sizzlin Steak house. We have always loved them and don't have any here in our area.

The dry situation can stop a lot of things, even dry Sundays will keep many of the chains from opening restaurants, expecially in a place like here. There are too many areas that are not dry. Nita

lol, there are plenty of western sizzlins around here. I think it's a nice city, we have a long ways to go with things. I wish we had a more supportive community as far as passing tax to allow us to get some nicer things, but besides that it's a good place.

Careful what you wish for.

Some taxes are necessary for specific things, mostly involving public safety/protection, essential city/town services, road/street maintenence and education.

Beyond those type of things, are additional taxes really a necessity or do they merely benefit a select few, or a special interest group(s)?

Most politicans never met a tax they didn't like and, IMO, the only check or balance is the populace.

Good ideas stand on their own merit and an astute citizenry should recognize good ideas.

The problem is that Van Buren has the lowest taxes around, and it shows. The police department is a small little dump of crumbling building. We have no city pool because the funds aren't there to repair it. The boys and girls club is very old, and shows its age. The city did a vote a year or so ago on a new police department and it was turned down, why? I dunno, I guess people choose not to reward the men and women that have made Van Buren a very safe place to live. Thankfully they voted in a new library, which will hopefully get the ball rolling on new facilities.

It just upsets me that fort smith is building all of these nice things, and we have all old crummy buildings because our tax is so low. Even Alma has a nice new water park area, with a new building for the boys and girls club, and it's 1/4th the size of van buren.

Some very funny people live there.
I had one person tell me that all gays should be killed and another tell me any one cought stealing even a kid taking a pc. of candy should have their hand cut off.
Not a bright crowd there.
Keep to the better places like hot springs, eurika springs.
COULD WE FREAKIN' STOP IT WITH THE SUNDOWN RULE!!! And yes, I MEAN TO YELL!

Because I believe this to be a dupe thread, I won't respond again - but this is stupid, stupid, stupid and uncalled for.

A rap on the knuckles to you, Tom for continuing this stuff.

HARRISON OVERALL IS A RACIST TOWN - TOM SAID HE HAD LIVED THERE AND EXPERIENCED THE HATRED AND BIGOTRY FIRST HAND ... AS HAVE I. Just a few years ago a visiting football team from a Fayetteville junior high with black players was trying to eat at the Harrison McDonalds after a game and some locals dressed in white sheets and chased them out of the restaurant.

Okey-dokey. Just for my own personal edification and education, would you please provide me the news link to the McDonald's incident in Harrison? I have never heard of that and I believe it surely should have made the news. I'd like to read about it for myself. Thanks so much.

Harrison is like 95% white. There have been rumors that the high school is shaped like a swastika and stuff like that for years, which is patently untrue. I think there may be some of Tom Robb's descendents up there - go look at their "compound". It's an interesting view into Deliverance....it is not the gold-plated KKK palace where the Big Doo-Doo or whatever they call him reigns from.

I am not saying there are not bigots and racists in Harrison. You can't find a town where that isn't present. I'm saying I think you continue to blow it out of proportion - however, if the McDonald's incident occurred, it might bring me around to thinking maybe they have a problem there.

I was going to ask the same question. Something like that it seems would be national news, certainly covered on some of the news programs on CNN and Fox. And yes, you are right, racists can be found everywhere and in every color.
