Well, not much to say to that except obviously this isn't your place in the sun.
I don't believe anyone ever promised you more than Wal Mart and hunting....if they did, they were wrong, and I apologize. Rich PEOPLE rule almost everywhere...if you haven't found out that life truth, then get ready - it will be there the next place you live as well. I don't think R'ville is holding court on that one.
You don't like it - and I appreciate that and hope you find where you DO fit in, as I know how it feels to think everyone but you is on the same page - but your presentation lacks a little here. Very broad generalizations made under your ONE post.
News: the food tax is being eliminated and has been reduced from 6% to 3% with some notable exceptions.
ALWAYS rent first if you don't know the area....you have 2 years to roll over a home sales profit into a new home....wait to make your decision. What you will lose in tax write-off will ALWAYS be outweighed by experience.
I'm sorry you weren't happy in R'ville - I do hope you find what you are looking for. It's not for everyone, but for some of us it's home. Don't know what brought you here - it's obvious you are quite a lot younger than I am - please let me give you some advice, as one who has gypsy feet. Go to where you think your next stop is in life on vacation, but don't vacation...spend a week living like a local, shopping, driving with traffic, checking out taxes and utilities, talking to people. You should never move anwhere for the view...because down the road could be the natural beauty AND the community you look for. Don't settle for less than what makes you overall happy - in the end you will be very UNhappy. No place is free from warts, and the warts you encounter could be deal breakers. I personally couldn't take the financial burden of living in a different state, although you are willing to do so. Different strokes. You don't say how long you've been in R'ville, but I'm willing to bet it's a relatively short time.
Good luck to you and your family.

OMG, I don't know where you lived prior to Ar or where your next home will be, but sometimes the positive attitude can also be overdone. Instead of re-locating with our eyes open we think we will find Utopia: it doesn't exist.
We all know the humidity can be unreal in the summer, have you lived anyplace else with the dampness? We have lived in Wash DC and Texas. I can assure you both are as bad or worse than AR.
AR isn't any better than Louisiana? Have you lived in Louisiana? I am curious because they are probably very much alike with the exception of LA not having the beauty. They are southern states.
It is too bad your childr is so unhappy. I find this a little strange, again you say you even tried top of the line birthday parties. Did you try to hard?
Next move, let's hope it is better for your family. As Sam said, what is good for one isn't always good for someone else, but my opinion, just from visiting and being around my granddaughters friends is quite different from what you have experienced. Golly, when we are there everyone is friendly. I have never lived anywhere with people who will almost stop you on the street to say good morning. We know, from past experiences, outsiders do not always fit in right away and have to adjust to changes.
Good luck to you. I would love to know where you lived before and where you plan on living next.

I have lived in the north and south for years in each, 7 years in florida, most of my life in wi. north. I have lived for several months in wichita. I can not stand kansas, it is not for me, flat and boring. so full of christians trying to stop you from doing anything fun.
I am now relocated in arkansas, mostly because it reminds me of wi without the snow.
I can take the summers much better than the cold. In north wi. you get only about 3 months of summer.
I am hopeing hot springs is going to become home once our house is built.
I like the artsy tolorant attitude here. I would have considerd eurika springs but it is still a very seasonal place.

I am from the little rock area. I am truly sorry your experience in Arkansas was here, their are far better opportunities for employment and education outside of Pulaski county. Do unto others, has been overlooked, I wish the readers would take down their defenses and truly treat all others in the community as they want to be treated.

Since you asked.. I am from California and plan on moving back to the area I was raised in.... considered a smaller town with a population of over 200,000, compared to larger cities in the area. It isn't all that bad here when you consider that our family got a good start here, and now due to that fresh start, we are in a place where we can handle the relocation. But there are other reasons for the desire to move. My family back home is ill, my child needs to be closer to a place that can provide full services for special needs, which is not at all available in this area. Thanks for the comment!

You are planning on moving back to Calif? Where, north or south? I was born and raised there, I sould never want the traffic, smog, crowds, illegal residence problems, high cost of living, etc. everyone does need to live where they are the happiest or think they will be. Good luck, you may need it.

nmnita,
I was born in southern, but raised in the East Bay area in northern. I actually love the traffic. My cousin and I use to sit for hours and just watch the cars go by. I've always lived near a main road or highway. It's lulling to me. There's no smog where I'm from due to it being so close to the coast. There's always a breeze and you can smell and taste the salt in the air! I love it! I love the crowds. They make everything feel alive. I love the cultural diversity, the sights, the sounds, all of it! What can I say, I'm a city girl! As far as the illegal residence problems... you must be from a different area than I am, because I don't know what you mean. The area I'm from is very clean. Not a bad neighborhood anywhere. It's truly a family town with many family communities, despite it's population, it's VERY family oriented.Yes, this is where I am the happiest.
In life, we must all find home and settle there. We are all different, different thoughts, desires, and needs. Mine are just a little more complicated than most. But where I'm from, that's the norm... complicated. So to me, it's actually pretty simple. No luck is needed. Everywhere I go, I go with God. And He's leading me back home!
