All three places have some of the state's scenic hilly beauty and enough to do to keep one busy. LR feels more urban if that matters.
Metro Little Rock was recently ranked by Moody's Investor Services as the second most diverse economy in the nation, only behind Chicago. Northwest Arkansas on the other hand would be back to blue-collared jobs if something bad ever happened to Wal-Mart.

Its been quite awhile since I lived in Arkansas.., 1975-7. However, I found that the longer I was there the more the people opened up to me! They can be clanish in that part of the country and you have to guard what you say, like anywhere else! Don't say the wrong things to the wrong people and you'll get along fine! They don't care for outsiders as a rule because to many of them, its where they spent their whole lives, isolating their world from the outside world. Also, I noticed when I lived there that quite a few people mysteriously disappeared along the Oklahoma Arkansas State line and one of them was a deputy sheriff! They were still looking for her when I moved away from there. They found one of her shoes in an Arkansas Louisiana gas truck. I never knew what happened to her.

I found the people there to be very wonderful, if they knew you!

Northern Arkansas, north of I-40 is different than southern Arkansas, and going roughly on a diagonal from Texarkana towards Jonesboro is mountainous going northwest from that line.., and the rest of the state is almost flat. Also, you might want land that isn't next to the Mississippi River if you don"t like humidity.

It's not so much the place your feet are in, it's the place you're head is in.

(Now that sounds like a California answer from a Tennessee boy.)

To be more on-point, Hot Springs is a charming little town with lots of natural beauty, good places to eat, and enough entertainment to satisfy most. The most popular of the three lakes there (Hamilton) is very crowded. Lake Ouachita (Wah-shee-taw) is mostly park land and can't be developed, but Lake Catherine is less highly developed and therefore highly prized.

Hot Springs can be a little schizo because the racing season each year brings lots of folks and money to town for a couple of months, clogging the streets and restaurants. Money flows and locals do well, but thereafter is a collective repose.

As much as I like to visit Hot Springs, I recommend you try some of the northern lakes. I like Missouri, too, but would prefer to stay near the southern bounds for the temperature. You don't want to go to Pine Bluff or elsewhere in the Mississippi delta. Look around Bull Shoals or Greer's Ferry/Heber Springs, or for another very quaint city, try Eureka Springs. If you just want to fish, Conway is one of the fastest growing areas of Arkansas and Lake Conway is good fishing, but that's about all.

If I could pick my spot, and if finding a job was not an issue, I would want to live in rural Northcentral Arkansas. Not too long ago, you could buy isolated plots for a thousand dollars an acre, but you had to dig a well, run miles of your own telephone and electric wire, and pipe in sunshine.

Good luck hunting, wherever you choose to settle.
There is a lot of wisdom in what you said! You must be very intelligent and I like what you said! Thanks!

Some of us would say that Hot Springs is ALWAYS "schizo" til we go to places like L. A. or Miami! Thirty years ago, it WAS just for the race season but now, it's pretty much year 'round that we have vacationers and people coming for conventions, etc. And if you think autumn is a sleepy time for us, forgetaboutit! The motorcycle folks take us by storm. In other words, we very rarely fall into a deep sleep around this part of our gorgeous state. A short nap in January maybe...but no repose for us yet!!!

Not too bad considering Northwest Arkansas has long been a rural part of the state, and Little Rock has been an established area(though still VERY small) for a long time Don't forget Tyson, which has many very high paying jobs. And who the hell is Moody Investor services anyways??? lol People will pull list of bests from all types to try and prove their worth

If you've never heard of Moody's then apparently you don't have many investments.

and don't you have a positive attitude. Where do you live, not in NWA I would gather. It appears you live in the Little Rock area somewhere, can't Little Rock be a good place to live an still see the Bentonville, Fayetteville, Bella Vista area as a possitive place?

Nita
